The next day, at school, during math class, Marcy was at her usual seat near the back windows. And lucky enough, Anne sat next to her.
They were working on a partner activity, and every time Anne talked, Marcy couldn't help but stare.
Just.. that way her lips moved.. and her eyes when she was excited..
It was all beautiful.
...Why was Marcy thinking all of this?
Yesterday, the comforting, the thoughts, and.. now.
Marcy tried snapping herself out of it.
"So, Marce.. what does X equal again?"
That brought Marcy out of her daze.
"O-oh! Oh.. X=12 in this scenario."
"Thanks!"
Anne gave Marcy that same adorable smile...
Marcy's heart fluttered.
"Your smile is really pretty, Anne.."
Anne's face flushed.
"O-oh, thanks, your smile isn't bad in itself either..."
Awkward silence.
"So.. what's the answer to number 6?"
"O-oh- I-uh- let's g-go over it together...!" Marcy said, trying to seem normal but was extremely awkward instead.
"Okay. Sounds like a plan!"
They went through the problem together, working things out, figuring out answers, until they came to a conclusion.
They raised their hands, and a teacher walked up.
"Yes..?"
"We think the answer to problem 4B is 9/6, miss."
"That is correct, but you need to make the fraction proper."
"Oh... alright! 1 3/6, or 1 1/2 then."
"There you go! That's correct!"
Marcy and Anne did a high-five, but this time they both felt their hands tingle slightly.
They blushed.
"M-ahem.. so.. we got it right."
"Y-yep.. ahaha.."
The pair sat there in more awkward silence. The tension could probably get cut with a knife it was so thick.
The knife was the bell in this moment, as the rings echoed throughout the whole school.
"O-oh..." Marcy felt slightly disappointed, she didn't wanna leave Anne so early.
"Well.. bye, marbles."
Marcy felt her heart flutter at the nickname, though she had heard it plenty of times, now just felt.. different, in a good way.
"..Bye, Annie.."
