IT'S BEEN OVER A decade since augustine met you. in short, your mothers were best friends, which made you two best friends by proxy. at first, he didn't like you; he considered you annoying and clingy. when he was introduced to you, you constantly followed him around like some dog. didn't you have somewhere else to be? someone else to bother?

as you grew up together, augustine began to find it difficult to dismiss you like he used to. not only did he no longer mind the clinginess, but he welcomed it. he became your protector of sorts; a knight in shining armor to deal with even the smallest problems for you. given your recklessness, you needed it.

augustine had befriended winnie a bit before he officially met you. the two of them were insuperable, and augustine hung out with him more often since they lived on the same street. around mid-summer, they stopped communicating. considering that, you were all augustine had to talk to. he didn't mind walking to the next neighbourhood over just to see you; the temperature didn't stop him either.

it was currently late december and there was a blanket of snow everywhere. it wasn't anything crazy, as you usually never got more than a couple inches. you looked out of the window, sipping on a mug of hot cocoa. augustine sat beside you. "i wanna build a snowman!" you whined. "like hell i'm letting you outside. you're sensitive to the cold" he stated protectively, making you pout.

"august~!" you tugged at his shirt, begging him. he looked at you as a small blush coated his cheeks. you were giving him puppy eyes; he had to admit, you looked adorable.

he released a sigh. "fine, but you're wearing one of my coats" he told you. the two of you spent a couple minutes getting ready. augustine wore a winter coat and hat whilst you wore earmuffs and one of auggie's coats. it was fairly large on you, but it was comfortable. you both wore boots as well. "one more thing." augustine grabbed a scarf and wrapped it around your neck, covering your mouth. "there!" he said, proud of himself. you slipped on a pair of gloves as an extra precaution.

you both then headed outside, a gust of cold hair hitting your faces. you shivered as augustine carefully walked you through the snow. from there, the two of you began to build a snowman.

as you did that, a car pulled up to the front of your house, catching augustine's attention. he hummed in confusion. upon seeing the car, you perked up. "WINNIE!" you exclaimed as you rushed to the car's window.

augustine's expression turned to shock, watching winnie's face come into view. the two of you began to chat happily as questions began to swirl in his head. how did you know him? why were the two of you friends? winnie left for college, why was he back? why did winnie cut ties with him, but managed to find a friend in you?

"you know him??" augustine blurted out, standing beside you. "yeah, i met him a couple days ago! he's pretty nice" you replied as winnie looked to him. "long time no see, auggie!" he greeted, a wide smile on his face. "don't call me auggie.." augustine muttered. "heh..anyways, i was wondering if you wanted to join us at the festival! it'll be fun, i promise!" winnie offered.

augustine only furrowed his eyebrows in thought. the two of you had plans, and you never told him? he looked to winnie. i bet that he forced you to keep quiet. "please~??" you begged, clasping your hands together. he blushed again. "yeah, i'll come" he spoke, startled when you happily threw your arms around him. augustine chuckled and returned the embrace; he could practically see your little 'tail' wagging. you both got into the car, winnie starting to drive through the snow.

"that was so fun!" winnie said happily as the three of you returned to the car. "yeah, the lights were so pretty!" you added, smiling. augustine stayed silent. it was like he was some third-wheel, and he didn't blame you at all. whenever you would try talking to him, winnie would always show up and divert your attention. he's doing it on purpose, augustine thought.

winnie's face turned to black and blue swirls, looking at him with a horrifying grin.

"worthless garbage like you doesn't deserve someone like y/n. i'll take them away and you'll never see them again!"

"you'll what..?" augustine murmured, clutching onto his coat. "august?" you called out, snapping him back to reality. he quickly got into the car. "are you okay, n/n? you're not too cold?" he asked. you shook your head. "no, i'm fine" you said with a smile. winnie began the drive back to your place.

the ride was fairly silent; though, augustine definitely had a lot to say. he wanted to get the answers he seeked from winnie. before he could speak, the car suddenly came to a halt. you hummed, peaking out of the window. "holy crap, there's a blizzard outside!" you pointed out. "it was fine a couple seconds ago.." winnie muttered. "dammit!" augustine exclaimed. he knew that if they were truly stuck, you wouldn't be able to take the incoming cold.

he tried opening the door, finding that it wouldn't budge. he began to kick at it. "hey, be careful!" winnie whined, not wanting his door to be ruined. he finally managed to get it open, the three of you quickly piling out of the car.

"what the hell?? i can barely see anything now!" augustine exclaimed. you shivered at the coldness, hugging yourself. winnie wrapped his arms around you in an attempt to provide warmth. augustine took notice of this, but stayed silent. "i'll search the car" he told you as he opened up the trunk.
