Marie walked into the room cautiously, her eyes darting between Claire and Cate, who stood like statues, their expressions unreadable. Indira remained frozen in the corner, looking tense. The tension was thick, palpable. "Claire?" Marie's voice was soft, uncertain, as she glanced around at the unsettling scene. "We got your text..." Emma mumbled as she walked in with Sam, her hand gripping his arm tightly for comfort.
Marie's gaze locked onto Cate, noticing the blood trickling from her eyes, a sign of overexertion. "Cate, are you okay?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. "What happened?"
Jordan, scanning the room, noticed Claire's thigh still bleeding from where she had stabbed herself. "What the hell is going on?" they asked, their eyes jumping from Claire to Indira, who stood stiff and silent.
Cate, despite her weary appearance, managed a small smirk. "I'm fine. And now she'll do whatever we want," she said, her eyes flicking toward Indira, who remained eerily still.
Marie's brow furrowed, her unease growing as she looked between them. "Maybe you both should rest," she suggested, her voice gentle, but firm.
Cate shook her head, her voice rising with frustration. "No. It wasn't my powers fucking me up. It was the pills she's been giving me." She pointed toward Indira with disdain.
Claire stepped forward, her posture rigid with fury. "And for me, it was stopping me from reaching my full potential," she added, lifting her hand to reveal a floating object that hovered mid-air, demonstrating the telekinetic power Indira's drugs had suppressed.
Indira finally broke her silence, her voice soft but firm. "Listen to your friends, Claire, Cate... they care about you," she tried, her tone almost pleading.
The room fell silent for a moment, but then Claire exploded. "Fuck you!" she shouted, her hand twitching as she hurled the floating object at Indira, who narrowly avoided it. Marie and Jordan jumped, startled by the sudden violence.
Cate stepped up beside Claire, her voice just as fierce. "Shut up! You had your chance to talk. Now it's our turn," she said coldly, her voice dripping with anger.
Indira, her voice shaking slightly, tried again, desperation creeping in. "Please, you don't have to do this. I love you both... you're like daughters to me."
Cate's face twisted with rage. "I know you love us, but it doesn't change the fact you're a fucking bitch!" she snapped, her eyes burning with fury.
Jordan, still confused, interjected, "What the hell is going on? Where's Max?"
"Okay, wait-sorry, can I get a quick SparkNotes version? 'Cause I have no idea what the fuck you guys are talking about," Emma said, her voice tight with confusion and concern.
Claire and Cate exchanged a look, then turned their gaze back to Indira, who seemed to shrink under their scrutiny. "Tell them what you told us," Claire demanded, her voice steely.
Indira swallowed hard, then spoke, her voice low and hesitant. "This school... it's a front. Thomas Godolkin wasn't just some philanthropist. He was a behavioral scientist. He built this place to figure out what makes supes tick-your weaknesses, how to control you."
Marie's face paled as Indira continued. "You're not here to study. The school is here to study you. You're subjects. Not students. Not humans."
"We're better than humans," Sam interrupted, his voice hard, cutting through the tension like a knife.
Marie stepped forward, her voice rising with alarm. "We found out she has some kind of virus, something to kill the kids in the woods."
Cate, her voice edged with fury, added, "It's more than that. She killed Max because he found out the truth."
