Let me know if I'm making the chapters too long ❤️ and what you guys are thinking please

I closed my eyes.

Exhaustion weighed on me and my thoughts raced with confusion and frustration.

How did I end up here, with these men claiming ownership of me like I was some fragile girl who needed constant protection?

Your ours kept echoing in my head on repeat.

I heard Mason move away, the chair creaking under his weight as he sat down.

Lincoln stayed close. The crackling fire filled the silence, its warmth battling the cold ache in my bones.

I probably wouldn't be so cold if they actually gave me my jeans like I asked but with how swollen my ankle is becoming maybe it was best.

I opened my eyes slightly, watching the flames dance, but my mind wandered.

Again repeatong what they wanted
Trust. That's what they wanted right and Obedience . Two things I'd never easily given to anyone before let alone then. Some random men who tracked me down. To drag me to this "safety" i didn't feel real. Like they were lying to me about it to try to get me to stay with them.

As I lay there, I felt Lincoln shift closer. His fingers brushed against my hair again, and I tried not to flinch. He wasn't rough, but the possessiveness in his touch unsettled me. It was like they wanted to break me down, to strip away any sense of independence I had left.

"Emmy, you are exhausted. You'll heal faster if you rest," Lincoln murmured, his voice low, almost coaxing. "listen to us and close your eyes."

I wanted to snap back, tell him I didn't need them, but my body was too tired to argue. My arm throbbed under the bandage and my ankle had a dull persistent ache.

Maybe I did need their help...for now. If i was by myself I'd be having to deal with this on my own.

I certainly wouldn't have been able to stitch my arm up...

But I also was running from them so I maybe I would have never gotten hurt in the first place.

"Why do you even care?" I asked softly, my voice barely above a whisper. The words slipped out before I could stop them.

Lincoln's hand stilled in my hair. For a moment, there was only the sound of the rain and the fire. Then, he spoke, his tone careful. "Because you're ours now. We take care of what belongs to us."

Mason's expression didn't change, but something flickered in his eyes—something I couldn't quite place. "Because we found you," he said simply. "And now you're ours."

That possessiveness again. It was unsettling, but also... comforting, in a strange, twisted way.

I swallowed hard, not knowing how to respond. "I don't even know you."

"You will," he said, his voice steady. "You'll learn to trust us."

I wasn't sure if that was a promise or a threat, but either way, I knew there was no escaping them. Not anymore.

My heart skipped a beat at his words. Ours. The possessive way they kept saying it made my stomach flip, yet part of me a small part wondered what it would be like to truly feel safe, even if it was under their control.

"I didn't ask for this," I whispered, unable to keep the bitterness from my voice.

Mason's quiet laugh broke the tension. "No one ever does, sweetheart. But it doesn't matter. This is where you are now."
