Princess Grace: *crosses arms* What was that?

Sir John was beyond thrilled to be given such an amazing opportunity. He slowly climbed the ladder of the knights and this was exactly where he was hoping to be.

Sir John: "Did you really expect me not to tell him? I'm only looking out for you."

The princess was annoyed with the fact that she had to be watched by a knight. In fact, she despised it. Nothing bothered her more. Well, until now. Sir John was one of the best knights they had.

Princess Grace: "Oh really? That was looking out for me? You told my parents about me sneaking out. All I want is to get out of this castle, but you ruined that for me. I am going to my room. I'm not going to do anything, but I'm sure you'll need to follow me in there too."

The princess rolled her eyes. She was over this conversation already. Sir John looked at her and knew from the start that she was not happy about this.

Sir John: "And all I want is for you to be safe. What kind of a knight would I be if I let you roam the village freely?"

Princess Grace; "A decent one!" She stormed off without looking back. This was all part of her plan. The other knights failed when it came to his current job. She was going to do everything in her power to make sure he does too.

Whether Sir John wanted to prove a point or continue talking to the princess, he followed her once again. He walked swiftly down the hallway after her.

Sir John: "Keeping you from danger is sort of my job, you know?"

She rolled her eyes and turned once again when she got to her bedroom door.

Princess Grace: "Oh, I'm well aware. Look. This is something I need to adjust to, alright? I need a moment."

She smirked as she slammed the door and quickly took the ladder from under her bed. She often used this to escape her previous guards without them knowing.

Princess Grace: "There's no way he will have a clue where I am. He probably won't even know I left."

Sir John was very smart and knew how the princess' mind worked. He has been observing her for many years and caught onto just about everything. The way she smiled when she said good morning and the small wave she would give anyone and everyone no matter who they are. The way her skirt twirled perfectly whenever she turned around. He knew exactly what he needed to do. It was blatantly obvious that she didn't need time to think on this. She was planning her next escape!

The knight quickly made his way through the hall and down the staircase. He made his way outside and stood outside her window under a nearby tree. Sir John crossed his arms and leaned against the tree as he watched the ladder drape over the window.

Princess Grace was feeling super confident in this moment. Every time she escaped, she felt on top of the world as she ran down the trail to the village. Unfortunately, that was not the case when she heard a familiar voice.

Sir John: "How dumb do you think I am?"

Her eyes widened while she climbed down the last few. She turned and tried not to look too shocked. He was leaning against the tree and gently brushed a piece of hair out of his face. Seeing him was the last thing she expected.

Princess Grace: "H-how did you know?"

Sir John smiled and stood up from the tree. He walked over to the princess and knew he surprised her. That's easy to see in this moment.

Sir John: "Simple. I know you're quite sneaky."

Princess Grace crosses her arms and looked annoyed, but deep down she was impressed. The other knights weren't nearly as bright as him.

Sir John: "How about we make a deal, your highness? I won't say anything to your parents if you agree to let me accompany you on your adventure."

Princess Grace: "Absolutely not! As I mentioned before, I don't need a knight to follow me around. I politely decline your offer."

The knight knew how to handle this situation. His cleverness and bravery made him a very strategic and successful knight.

Sir John: "Alright then. I'll go inform him immediately."

The knight began to walk away, ever so slightly glancing back to make sure the princess was still there. The princess did not want to accept the offer, but she secretly feared what her father would do. Staying on the castle grounds while constantly having guards around was not her idea of fun.

Princess Grace: "Wait!"

She gently lifted her skirt a bit to run closer to him.

Princess Grace: "Alright. I accept your offer."

The knight stopped and turned to face her. He was surprised, but he didn't want her to know that. He wanted her to think he expected this, even though this was the last thing he assumed would happen.

Sir John: "What shall our first adventure be? I'm available all afternoon so I'm good with wherever.

Princess Grace: "Well, I was thinking about the bakery in the village."

Sir John: "A bakery? That sounds promising. Lead the way, your highness."

The knight bowed a little at her as she walked past him. He smiled at her when he stood upright again, but she clearly didn't seem to notice. They both made their way down the path.
