**Flashback to three years ago in the castle gardens for the annual garden party**

Princess Grace walked down the stairs and looked around. The garden was perfectly decorated with the most beautiful pink and gold ribbons. The centerpieces for each table were gold lanterns with an array of pink roses inside. It wasn't a big party by any means, but just ten royals and their families from the court and the knights. It wasn't like the annual ball that is always a hit no matter your status. Everyone was invited and were invited to join in the festivities.

The king waved the princess over so she could talk with some of the royals on the court and the head knight. Little did she know that she had someone's eyes in particular on her. A certain knight with blue eyes that were as blue as the local lake that is often compared to sapphires.

Sir John smiled as he admired the princess. Her dress was a beautiful light pink with gold roses here and there on her skirt. Her golden hair was half pulled back with a pink rose that met two braids in the center. She was smiling and was clearly making an impression. She always knew how.

The princess curtsied and excused herself in a very respectful way. She made her way over to the dessert table and glanced over the choices. There are tea cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and croissants. Princess Grace smiled and picked up a strawberry tea cake and a napkin.

It was Sir John's job to keep an eye out and scout the area. He was doing just that, but always gravitated back to the princess. She met his eyes and he quickly looked around and prayed that she didn't just see him looking at her.

Princess Grace just rolled her eyes a little and finished her tea cake. She threw away the napkin and made her way over to him.

Princess Grace: Is there something you need help with? You seemed to be pretty fixated on the dessert table. You know you can walk over and get something if you want. No need to watch me eat something. *giggles*

Sir John tried his best not to turn red. She did see, but he wasn't about to have her believe that. Instead, he used his charm to hopefully divert the conversation in a different direction.

Sir John: That's very kind of you, your highness. However, I was just hoping you were not about to do anything mischievous. It's my job to look over the area and keep an eye out for anything and everything. You seemed pretty curious about my job though. Is there a specific reason perhaps? *winks*

Princess Grace: *rolls her eyes* You are absolutely insufferable. You know that, right?

Sir John: I was not aware of that. I'm just naturally confident and clearly good at my job. Don't you think, your highness?

The knight bowed and winked once more at her before moving a strand of his brown hair out of his sapphire eyes. The princess was not amused and instead rolled her eyes and walked away. Sir John breathed a sigh of relief and went back to his job that he never actually stopped doing.
