it was one of those days where the heat was relentless, sticking to your skin like a second layer, no matter what you did to escape it. m/n had spent most of the morning trying to find a way to stay cool, lying on his bed with the fan blowing directly on him. but the air coming from the fan was warm, offering little relief.
he had no plans, and honestly, the thought of stepping outside in this weather seemed like torture.
he glanced at his phone, half-heartedly scrolling through messages until one from donghyuck caught his eye. "let's go to the park today. jaemin's coming too."
m/n groaned, rolling over on his side. the idea of being outside in this heat didn’t sound appealing at all. he was about to decline when another message popped up from jaemin. "don’t be lazy. it’ll be fun."
he hesitated, thinking it over. staying inside wasn’t going to make the heat any better, and hanging out with his friends could be a nice distraction. after a few more minutes of indecision, m/n finally sighed, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. "fine, i'll see you there." he texted back.
he took a quick shower, hoping the cool water would shake off some of the exhaustion that clung to him from the heat. by the time he was done, he felt a little more refreshed but still dreading stepping out into the sun. he grabbed a loose t-shirt and cargos, something light enough to survive the weather, and headed out the door.
when he arrived at the park, jaemin and donghyuck were already waiting. donghyuck, true to form, was stretched out on the bench dramatically, one arm flung over his face. "i swear, i’m dying," he complained as m/n approached. "why did we think this was a good idea again?"
"don’t look at me," m/n said, slumping down beside him. "i was perfectly happy staying in bed."
jaemin, sitting on the ground with his legs crossed, seemed entirely unbothered by the heat. "you two are just overreacting," he said calmly. "it’s not that bad."
m/n shot him a look. "easy for you to say. you look like you were built for summer."
they spent the next hour or so sitting in the shade, watching the world around them. couples lounged on blankets under the trees, some of them laughing and feeding each other snacks, while others lay side by side, heads resting on each other's shoulders. families chased after their kids, the sound of laughter and squeals filling the air. some friends were playing frisbee, while others kicked a soccer ball around.
m/n's gaze lingered on a couple sitting near the pond, sharing what looked like watermelon slices. they were laughing softly, the kind of laugh that seemed to come from a place of comfort and closeness.
