"I know who you are." She fixed the visitor with a cold stare. "And I know what you did."
"That's why I'm here." He hung his head. "To make amends. I regret everything I did to her."
"You made her your prisoner. You tortured her to death."
"I was a different person then."
"Your apologies can't bring her back."
"I know." He lowered himself to his knees. "Which is why I came here to offer you my life in exchange."
She studied him like a cut of beef. "I accept your offer," she said at last. "But it'll be slow."
