Chapter 8:Forged In Iron

"Order ceases to function when the people are given too much freedom,you think we as humans understand the full grasp of having freedom?"

A woman,probably in her 40-50s moved a toy soldier across a map with a cane

"No my lady.." A man next to her said

"Well allow me to enlighten you my Lieutenant..we do not and it is my job as this brand New Dawn's..leader..to maintain order and kill anybody who gets in the way of that."

"They called me Colonel Kieran once..then they called me woman..now they call me The Iron Lady..why do you think they call me that..their Lady?"

"You're a merciful but ruthless woman who isn't afraid to strike insubordinates down my lady."

"Exactly..which is why we must take back this world..with force..with order and with me as its head and the likes of you as its sword."

"Leave now Lieutenant and resume your tasks.."

"Yes my lady." The lieutenant left

She turned around to a man on his knees right infront of her

"So..what is it you want from The Liberation Front,Kelvin..correct?"

She ripped a piece of tape off of his mouth

"For you to back the fuck away from Big Bear!..or we'll be forced to attack you!!"

"Such big words for such a small little community!!..tell me how scared do you think I am dear."

"..I-.."

"You're at a loss for words because i am not scared of your little lodges..300 People and a few allies? Pfft!!..i have an army of 8,000 Raiders,Cannibals and Bandits!!..and yet they all follow me! And they respect my rules! I've carved out an empire for myself Kelvin,my dear!.."

"I have 95 settlements under my jurisdiction all of which answer TO ME!"

"So when you tell me to back off!!..what do you think I am going to tell you?.."

"Exactly Kelvin..you're a smart fellow..i'll conquer your people..and make them work for me..I'll kill many if i have to.."

Kelvin's eyes widened at her lack of remorse

"..Wait..I'll give myself up..I'll go with you"

"Hahahah!! Why would I do that?..just because you give yourself up you expect me to let Big Bear go?"

"..Navy Seal training..thats what i have..im special forces..i can give you the most elite unit you've ever seen..all you gotta do is spare Big Bear..I can train a group of your raiders into being killers."

"..Now you're talking..Navy Seal?..how'd a man such as yourself get in there?"

"..That supposed to be a compliment or an insult."

"It's whatever you take it as.."

"I joined up in '24..served for 3 years in Mexico..taking it from the..well..mexicans."

"How'd you even allow yourself to be caught?" The. 'Iron Lady' asked

"That's because your people caught me off guard..but it took 5 of them to die by my unarmed hands to get me down..why do you think im still alive..on my knees,right in front of you" Kelvin answered with a near threatening tone

"Your words are bold.." she crossed her legs

"You begin by tomorrow..if you prove well,Big Bear shall be allowed to remain independent."

"FROM THIS DAY FORWARD!! KELVIN HICKS!!.TAKES THE NAME OF THE SCOUT!!..PROMOTED FROM RANKER!! TO CAPTAIN! EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!!..AND THUS! HE SHALL BEAR THE MARK OF THE DAWN!!" The Iron Lady shouted to a crowd of slaves and 'soldiers' as the 'soldiers' started shouting and roars of their call for the mark rang through

A man picked up a branding iron with the symbol of a sun as Kelvin took off his shirt and knelt down

"YOU ARE NOW A SOLDIER OF THE DAWN!!..and Big Bear shall be spared for your contribution..i do not turn back on my promises..Captain."

She said this as the man pushed the branding iron onto Kelvin's back sizzling his skin..Kelvin kept quiet as he just looked at the Iron Lady with a straight face

"I'll honor my duty..Iron Lady." He spoke as if he was forced to do so..he didn't want to say that but he knew he had to..he had just ensured the safety of Big Bear,sacrificing his freedom to do so.

Kelvin sat at his new home,he was on the lap of luxury here,his bed was silky smooth and his house was cleaner than a home before the war

"My duty.." Kelvin spoke to himself

"I should've never left Big Bear to go out..on that stupid solo mission."

The Iron Lady came walking through his door as if she owned the place..and she did..she owned everything.

"As my newest Captain..i should let you know that we encounter great enemies on the regular,three stand apart from them all."

"The Wraith Bandits..a group of uncontrolled savages that think Adaptation is the new way and kill anybody who doesn't believe so..or enslaves them."

"What separates them from us?.."

"We do it when necessary and to keep order..those soldiers out there are controlled savages,understood?"

"Yes my lady."

"The FDEU..we've suddenly been encountering them..and they have been hitting us hard..so far they have not taken..not even one confirmed casualty while they have taken 125 of my men in the singular month we've heard of them,they have been destroying checkpoints,we cannot keep letting that happen."

"The Fransisco County Militia..conscripted soldiers make up the mass majority of it,they say they try to bring peace but Chaos ensues where they go..they usually kill and leave.."

"Each of them have their own unique threats Kelvin..Militia with their weaponry,Wraiths with their numbers and FDEU with their training and tactics..all make them formidable and it's on us to take their unnecessary little crusades down"

"And im guessing you want me to take charge on one of these fights?.."

"Yea,i cant handle all of them..you as the one with military experience will handle the FDEU..i expect results Captain,i will issue you an APC and a company."

"Yes my lady..i may have an idea already up jn the works in my mind..i will wait for my company.."

"Good." The Lady said as she got up and walked out the room closing the door behind her

"Unnecessary crusades..pshh..as if yours isn't as meaningless as theirs.."
