Avishi leaned back in her chair, eyes glued to the Money Heist episode playing on her laptop. The professor was in the middle of one of his genius monologues, making everything sound like a philosophical TED Talk.
She loved the thrill, the plot twists, the drama, but the idea of pulling off a heist herself? Yeah, right... The only thing she could steal was an extra five minutes of sleep in the morning.
Just as the professor was about to reveal his next big move, the doorbell rang.
Avishi groaned, reluctantly paused the episode, and reluctantly dragged herself from her comfortable spot. Her sister, Dhruvi, shot out of the kitchen like she was competing in the 100-meter dash at the Olympics.
"I'll get it!"
Dhruvi shouted, practically tripping over her own feet as she made it to the door. Avishi knew exactly what was happening.
The package had arrived.
Avishi darted over and intercepted the delivery guy before Dhruvi could start snooping. She quickly paid, grabbed the brown envelope, and turned to Dhruvi.
"Not. A. Word,"
she warned, her voice low but deadly serious.
Dhruvi's eyes lit up like a diwali lights.
"Oh, hooo, what is it? Another one of your secret projects?"
she teased, leaning in dramatically.
Avishi rolled her eyes.
"Just... keep it quiet, will you?
she muttered, rushing back to her room. She slammed the door behind her and tore open the package. Inside, gleaming like a small treasure, was a pendant which was simple, elegant, attack on Titan one ,just perfect.
She had bought it for Kartik.
Kartik Rawat, the boy who haunted her thoughts day and night. His smile, his laugh, his eyes.....everything about him was straight out of a cheesy Disney movie, but real. He was the kind of guy you couldn't help but notice in a crowd. Except, well...
Kartik never seemed to notice her. Avishi was practically invisible to him. But this pendant was her big move. She had been rehearsing in her head all week, planning how she would give it to him. Except there was one problem: every time she got close, she chickened out.
One fine afternoon, Avishi sat in class, lost in daydreams of grand pendant handovers, when Shanu, her best friend, shook her shoulder.
"Avishi, what do you say? What should we make?"
It took Avishi a second to snap out of it. Shanu repeated,
"For the food fair, duh."
Ah, yes, the food fair. Their teacher had announced it earlier that day....a fun event where students could form groups and cook whatever they wanted. Shanu had jumped on board immediately, but Avishi had been too preoccupied with Kartik thoughts to care.
"Um, yeah, that sounds fun. Let's do it,"
Avishi finally agreed.
"We can get Liya and Akshara in our group. Four of us is perfect. And we are not including Shilpa."
"Obviously!"
Shanu agreed with an exaggerated eye roll.
"I can't stand that girl."The plan was set, and after gathering Liya and Akshara, they brainstormed ideas for the food fair. Liya offered to make her signature bhel, Akshara decided to bring disposable plates and cups, and Shanu, much to everyone's surprise, claimed she could whip up an Oreo chocolate cake.
