"That too with Jungkook's signature on it."
Y/n flipped the pages and there she found it. His signature in the right corner of the page. The left corner was blank.
And as soon as she saw that blank space, the world froze for her. Jeongsik shooted numerous questions at her but she failed to recieve any.
The divorce agreement was in her hand. A pen was lying in the handbag she kept at the table. Jungkook had already signed it. The place meant for her signature was blank and calling to her.
Minutes passed, she sat frozen eyeing the blank space with a blank mind. Jeongsik's question didn't stop nor did his glares. But Y/n sat there oblivious to it all.
"Will it be all over if I sign it?" She said with eyes still at the blank space.
"What!?" Jeongsik was shocked. He realized that all this time she hadn't been listening to him at all.
"If I sign it, will it be over?" She finally looked up to him. Her eyes were blank. Face expresionless. "The reasons, that forced us both to tie this knot, will they vanish as well? With this?" She held up her hand with the ring.
Jeongsik waited. He studied her. He worked his brain to decipher the woman before him. But he failed. And he failed miserably. He sat back with a heavy sigh seeing absolutely no change in her state.
"No." He said one word and all the emotions that Y/n had forgotten, came back rushing in with the speed of light. That too all at once. She felt a stab in her heart. "I doubt the reasons might end up amplifying."
Those words of his confirmed her suspicion that Jeongsik held something important over Jungkook just like her brother did to her. Now the real question was, what was it?
"Then you got nothing to worry about." She placed back the papers in the envelope. "As long as you all have got your reasons with you, we can't back off from this marriage."
She might have said it to remind the old man, but to his ears, her words sounded like a threat. As if she was telling him to protect the reasons.
"Then you are telling me that Jungkook got these papers done on a whim and signed it likewise?" Jeongsik's expressions turned grimmer.
"Seems like it." She looked way too calm and composed. A complete contrary to Jeongsik.
"Do you really want me to believe that? Jungkook never does anything on a whim." He put a lot of pressure on his words.
"Looks like you really don't know your son." She got up from her seat before he gets to question her again and continued. "As I said, this marriage is safe, as long as you have got the reasons with you. You can rest assured. And about things working out between me and your son." She stood straight in a polite honourable way meant to respect the other at the recieving end.
"It's not my job to educate your son that you yourself couldn't." If there was even a tiny bit of calmness left in Jeongsik then this statement of hers killed it. "I hope you understand what I meant." Then she bowed sincerely. "Forgive me if my words offended you in any way."
It was Jeongsik's turn to freeze like a statue this time. She stood tall and gave him a soft smile. And with that, she left him there with tons of questions in his mind and the envelope in her hands.
-----
As the car entered the path joining The Crypt to the main gate, she kept eyeing the envelope in her lap.
She didn't know why she brought the envelope with her. Was she going to sign it despite hearing what Jeongsik had said? Or was she going to confront Jungkook?
