We had been called to scrape gum off of the desks again the next Monday evening. For the next 3 weeks. Xander was complaining, yet again. Anya wasn't helping, not surprising. It was only me and Buffy really doing anything. Even then my heart wasn't in it. How could it be? I'd just become an official girlfriend of my girlfriend, why would I want to scrape gum when I could be spending time with her?

What was she doing now?

Studying?

Magic?

Thinking about me?

Okay, now that last thought was a stretch. But I was thinking of her, so maybe it worked that way. We thought of each other at the same time? I sighed.

Xander broke the silence, echoing my sigh. "I concur that. This sucks." Okay, so I didn't realise I'd done it aloud.

"It's not...terrible." Buffy tried to remain optimistic.

"You mean you want to remove sticky yucky pink goo from the underside of desks, getting it underneath your fingernails and no matter how much you shower or clean, it won't be removed, eventually consuming you so nobody wants to date you, and you die and then aliens find your body-"

Xander stopped scrubbing (not that he had been doing it much) and interrupted his girlfriend. "Chewing gum makes you die?"

"What are you talking about?" I glared at Anya; my patience was low. Definitely wasn't in the mood for her.

Xander picked up on it and smirked in my direction. "Oo, somebody's testy..."

I turned back to my desk and scrubbed harder.

"Why didn't you just bring her? Or maybe that would just turn into a full-blown orgy actually."

I was annoyed at his choice of wording, especially given his own track record. "Because...That's boring for her. And also, we don't have...orgies."

"Coulda fooled me. What with that risqué move last night. No more sweet innocent Willow."

Before I could get annoyed with them both, Buffy interjected, still scrubbing. "Lay off. You're just jealous that they've got an emotional connection, instead of just physical."

Xander didn't know how to respond to that and actually started scrubbing this time, embarrassed by Buffy's astute observation, as usual.

After a while, we were allowed to go and Xander and Anya left while Buffy walked with me.

"You know you shouldn't take what he said to heart. It's Xander after all."

I looked at her quickly; I had grown used to Xander long enough to know that. "Oh, yeah, I know. It's fine."

There was silence for a few moments as she looked at me with a knowing look. "Have you done...anything though? Between me and you."

I looked at her quickly. "What?! No, no! God..." I hoped I wasn't blushing but could feel a little heat in my neck and cheeks as I looked down at the ground again, now kicking a stray pebble along the pavement we walked.

"You're blushing. You want to?" Great.

"I mean, I don't know, I mean, yeah, no, yeah." I sighed then stopped kicking the pebble and looked back at her. "I don't know."

"Sounds like a DEFINITE maybe to me. Come on, are you really dating if you're not having horny thoughts?"

I wasn't sure it had been possible to blush more, but I did. Back to the pebble. Luckily, we were coming up on my house so she couldn't question further.
