Soon Saturday came around and Maya and Carina were setting up the house for Nora's visit. While the last visit to the park was important, this one meant so much more. This would end up being Nora'a first impression of the home she could potentially grow up in, with these two women who loved her dearly.
Maya was busy cleaning and tidying making things look nice and presentable, while Carina was cooking some fresh pasta. Carina had noticed that Nora tended to relax more with the mention of Italy around her. Wether it be Italian food or simply just the language, Nora would become a little less tense. Carina's thoughts were that if the house smelt like Italian cookery, and the counters were decorated with fresh hanging spaghetti she would ease any nerves that Nora was feeling.
Maya and Carina had gone to the store the evening before to buy some things. They bought some colouring pencils, colouring pages with fruits and animals on, and a little stuffed lion. Carina set up the coffee table with the pencils and colouring sheets, making sure to pick out the lemons, oranges, and lion pictures for Nora.
Carina wore black leggings and her light pink jumper. She had her hair half up half down, with the up part in a little bun. She had face framing strands of hair hanging too. Maya wore some shorts and a navy blue sweatshirt, with her hair tied up in a ponytail.
Soon it was 11 o'clock and the pair sat on the sofa waiting for the doorbell to ring.
"Ah I'm so nervous, I hate waiting!" Carina said as she got up to pace.
"Oh believe me I know you do!" Maya said thinking about all the many times her wife had told her how much she hated waiting. "Carina relax she'll be here soon"
"I know I know but this is important, what if she doesn't like the house? What if she doesn't feel comfortable?" Carina said ranting a little
"If she doesn't feel comfortable we can try our best to address it and fix it. She may not talk Car but she's very communicative" Maya explained
"You're right you're right I just" Carina started being cut off by the sound of the doorbell "she's here!"
Maya got up to join her wife as they walked over the answer the door. Maya opened the door to be great by Jasmine and a very smiley Nora.
"Hey you two! Hi Nora!" Maya said happily
Nora gave a massive smile and wave back. "Ciao bella! Come stai?" Carina said earning a thumbs up from Nora.
The pair welcomed the two in and got themselves situated by the coffee table, Nora immediately starting to colour the picture of the lion. She was made up with the art supplies.
"Can I get anyone a drink?" Maya asked, all three of them nodding. "Nora would you like some apple juice?" Nora nodded and smiled.
"So Carina how are you feeling? I heard you weren't too well last week" Jasmine asked.
"No I wasn't, I was in hospital for a night, but I'm much much better now grazie" Carina replied "how's Nora now? She looks a lot better"
"Oh she is yes, she just had a bit of a cold to be honest. I only took her in because she had a fever of 103.5" Jasmine said.
"The fevers with strep are brutal" Carina said
"Yeah Carina went up to 104 in hospital and endured an hour of ice baths, cooling blankets, and ice filled washcloths" Maya said bringing everyone a drink
"Oh god that's dreadful! Cooling blankets are so much worse than they sound" Jasmine replied
"Oh yes something I'd very happily not experience again" Carina said shuddering at the feeling "but we are all better now"
