SIGHT SEEING & MEETING | CHAPTER 16
THIRD PERSON P.O.V
SIGHT SEEING
The air was thick with heat and the distant sound of drums as D €, Sheila, and Melena (Layla) strolled through the lively streets of Haiti. The sun beat down on their backs, casting long shadows as locals moved around them, the scents of roasted meats and exotic fruits mingling in the air. D € and Sheila exchanged a knowing look, clearly eager to share the deeper parts of Haitian culture with Layla.
“You know,” Sheila began, a playful smirk curling at the corners of her lips, “Haiti is known for its voodoo customs. Ever heard of it?”
Layla raised an eyebrow, intrigued but cautious. “I’ve heard whispers… but never anything specific.”
“Oh, girl. It’s way deeper than you think. Some women nail their man’s shoes under the bed, thinking it’ll stop him from leaving.” Sheila’s voice carried a mixture of amusement and seriousness.
D € joined in, nodding. “Yeah, and if they’re really serious, they’ll grab a lock of hair, attach it to a voodoo doll, and start inflicting all kinds of pain just by poking it with a needle.”
Layla’s face scrunched in disbelief. “What? That’s seriously messed up.”
Sheila’s eyes twinkled as she leaned in closer, lowering her voice like she was sharing a dangerous secret. “That’s not even the worst of it. They say some people use voodoo to trap spirits, control lives… even cause death.”
Layla shivered, wrapping her arms around herself as if the sun had vanished behind a cloud. “Okay, enough. Can y’all just lay off the creepy voodoo superstitions? You’re creeping me the hell out.”
Sheila let out a lighthearted laugh and patted Layla’s arm. “All right, all right. No more spooky stories—for now.”
They continued their stroll, checking out the vibrant market stalls and absorbing the culture before making their way to the boatyard. Sheila and D € buzzed with excitement as they spotted the sky surfing gear, while Layla eyed the equipment warily.
“You guys really wanna do this?” Layla asked, biting her lip as her gaze shifted from the churning water to the sky-high waves.
Sheila grinned, her adventurous spirit shining through. “Hell yeah! You should try it too. C’mon, it’ll be fun!”
Layla shook her head, a nervous chuckle escaping her. “Nah, I’m good right here. Firmly planted on this boat with my wine, thank you.”
D (E) shot her a reassuring smile, his hand lingering on her shoulder. “You sure? We’ll go easy.”
“I’m sure. Heights are not my thing. I’ll just record you guys.” Layla lifted her phone, aiming the camera at D € and Sheila as they prepped for the sky surfing adventure.
As the boat roared to life and D € and Sheila soared across the water, Layla sipped her wine and marveled at their energy. Sheila screamed in pure delight, and D € looked like he belonged there—confident, fearless, and free. Layla couldn’t help but smile, despite her earlier nerves.
After what felt like hours of thrills, they regrouped, soaking wet but filled with adrenaline.
“That was insane!” Sheila exclaimed, shaking the water from her hair. “Best thing I’ve done in ages!”
D € grinned, his gaze softening as it landed on Layla. “I’ve got something else in mind, though. Something a bit more… laid back.”
Curious, Layla raised an eyebrow. “Oh yeah? What’s that?”
