Y/N’s feet moved swiftly over the uneven pavement, her breath fogging the crisp morning air. The city was awake now, people bustling about their routines, but Y/N felt strangely detached from it all. She had left the base in the dead of night, slipping away while everyone else slept. The moment she stepped outside, the weight of her decisions and the unknown had started to melt away.

The city was vast, far more expansive than the tightly controlled world she had grown used to within the organization’s base. Buildings towered overhead, casting long shadows as the sun began its slow rise. The cool breeze was refreshing, carrying with it the sounds of life—the distant hum of traffic, the chatter of early commuters, and the occasional barking of a dog.

Y/N kept her pace steady, but her mind raced. She hadn’t planned for this. She hadn’t intended to leave permanently. It was supposed to be a brief escape—a chance to breathe and gather her thoughts. But now, out here on her own, the world stretched infinitely in front of her, and returning to the base seemed less certain with each passing step.

She found herself wandering through a quieter part of the city, a neighborhood where small shops lined the streets and trees dotted the sidewalks. It was peaceful, almost picturesque. For the first time in a long while, Y/N felt the tension in her shoulders ease. There were no eyes on her here, no orders to follow. Just her and the open city.

As she slowed her pace, Y/N spotted a small café nestled between two larger buildings. The warm, inviting glow of its interior caught her attention. Her stomach growled, reminding her that she hadn’t eaten since the day before. She hesitated for a moment but eventually made her way inside.

The café was cozy, filled with the comforting smell of freshly brewed coffee and the sound of light chatter. Y/N found a seat by the window, where she could watch the world go by without being noticed. As she waited for her coffee, she allowed herself a moment to reflect.

This was what she had wanted, wasn’t it? To see the world beyond the base? To feel what it was like to be ordinary, just for a little while? Yet, despite the calm that had settled over her, there was an undercurrent of uncertainty. She couldn’t help but wonder how long this feeling would last.

The bell above the door chimed softly, and Y/N glanced up as a pair of customers entered. A man and a woman, chatting quietly, their faces relaxed and free of worry. Y/N envied them for a brief moment. How easy it must be to live without the weight of secrets, without the fear of constantly looking over your shoulder.

Her coffee arrived, and she sipped it slowly, savoring the warmth. The taste grounded her, giving her something to hold onto amidst the swirl of thoughts. She didn’t know what Fyodor or Nikolai would do when they realized she was gone. Would they be angry? Concerned?

She shook her head, trying to push the thoughts away. For now, she was out here. She was free. And that was enough.

After finishing her coffee, Y/N left the café, feeling a little more centered. She wasn’t sure where to go next, but that was the beauty of it—there didn’t need to be a plan. She could wander, explore, and be free to choose her own path for once. She walked through the streets aimlessly, passing through parks and quiet alleyways, enjoying the simple act of being out in the open.

However, as the sun climbed higher in the sky, the city’s noise grew louder, and with it came the familiar tug of reality. She couldn’t escape her responsibilities forever. The organization still held a piece of her, whether she liked it or not. But for today, she wouldn’t worry about it. She’d savor this moment of freedom and let tomorrow bring whatever it may.

As the afternoon approached, Y/N found herself back in the busier part of town. She was no longer running from anything—just walking, feeling the weight of her decisions a little less heavily than before. The base was still out there, waiting for her return. But for now, the city was hers to explore, one step at a time.
