Another day, another struggle, as Khleo's heart pounded in her chest as she sat in her last class for the day, but her mind kept racing with thoughts of her upcoming concert.
Last time with young star, she was writing application letters to UCONN and luckily for her, she got in. Then it was sitting beside Nika Mühl, her long time crush, in her first class of the semester, and now, we're here.
Khleo was already nervous, seeing as this one would be the biggest concert of her start-up career into fame, but the news that Rihanna would be in the audience had sent her anxiety levels soaring. The concert was this weekend, today being Thursday, leaving the girl with the rest of the day and tomorrow to rehearse and plan for it all, but this news might put her in the hospital...or spotlight.
When her manager texted her, Roxy Blooms confirmed Rihanna's attendance, Khleo's breath hitched.
Text between Mam.Roxy & (Lil.burd)
Mam.Roxy: Well baby.burd, It's confirmed, Rihanna and her man bought the tickets about 3 days ago, better make it a good one.
Lil.burd: You're kidding right! You have to be! She's actually coming!
Mam.Roxy: When have I ever joked about something like this! Never, believe me I was as stunned as you are.
Lil.burd: ...well damn! Roxy! What am I supposed to do!
Mam.Roxy: You breathe hun. Don't you worry, my lil.birdie, you'll be great! Talent recognizes talent.
Lil.burd: I guess, thanks Roxy!
Mam.Roxy: Anything hun.
'Oh lord, please help me' She thought to herself, and tried to focus on the professor's lecture, but her mind was a whirlwind of doubt and fear. She held her phone tightly as her hands started to shake, her eyes began to water and her chest, aching with a large dread of discomfort, she knew this feeling all too well, a panic attack coming on, a familiar sensation that had plagued her in the past.
Her aunt would always tell her, when she felt this way. "When you can't breathe, remind yourself. Your fearless, say it with me, bebé, I'm fearless"
But right now, she didn't feel fearless, she felt weak and exhausted, not a lot of people noticed her behaviour, seeing as she had her head down, even before the attack began!
Suddenly, a hand landed gently on her shoulder. She slowly looked up to see a concerned face. "Are you okay?"
It was Nika Mühl again, her worrisome gaze only made the feelings that Khleo had for her enhance.
Not trusting her voice, she opted for nodding, trying to mask her distress. But her breathing was shallow, her eyes watery and her hands were trembling.
Nika sensed her discomfort and offered a reassuring smile. "It's okay to not be okay, bebó" she said softly. "Do you want to step outside for some fresh air?"
Khleo agreed, grateful for Nika's understanding and decided to indulge her.
With a smile, Nika turned briefly to one of their classmates and told her they'd be back, taking the pale girls phone from her grasp, Nika lead Khleo to the empty hallway of the lecture building, walking a bit till they got to the sitting areas, making sure she was comfortable before asking her what's wrong.
Khleo hesitated, not wanting to reveal her secret fear. But Nika was persistent, and Khleo eventually confided in her. "My manager texted me, while we were in class and confirmed that amongst the list of people attending, Rihanna would be there...she got the tickets a few days ago...and she's kind of like, my inspiration and... I love her music and everything she does so much and I don't want to fumble, it's my first serious concert, the biggest one yet and so many people that look up to me, and I look up to are going to be there, I want to give it my all. I need to, but i feel like I'll fail. Does that make sense."
Nika listened patiently, nodding along to every word and also offered words of encouragement. "You're an amazing performer, I haven't seen you live yet, but your so good. I seriously don't know how you do it, but you do and you give it your all. That's what matters" she said. "I'm sure Rihanna will be blown away by your talent, I mean, I already am."
Khleo smiled, feeling a little better, more lighter and delightful more relaxed. "Thanks, I just hope I don't mess up."
"You won't," Nika assured her, pulling her in for a side hug "You're going to be incredible."
With a smile, they walked back to their lecture hall, the professor seemed to be almost done with the lecture.
"Hey." Nika says once the lecture ended and everyone started filling out of the room. "Why don't I treat you, before you leave to get ready."
"R-Right now? L-Like a date or..." Khleo asks with a light blush coating her cheeks. She wished she could pinch herself right now.
"Yeah, like a date" Nika says with no hesitance at all. "We could stop at that smoothie place close by, i've seen you by there sometimes. It'll be a great way to relax after the stress you just went through, and i'd like to talk to you more." Nika says smiling at the girl, in all honesty, she's always noticed Khleo, even before she officially started at UCONN.
She'd see her when she stoped by to visit her friends who attended the school. Beau was on the boys basketball team and his twin sister, Bonnie, who wasn't into sports, but she was a big supporter of it, since her brother was into it, she came to almost all the games.
"I'd love to." The two girls smile at one another and made their way to the shop, spending some quality time together, asking each other questions about one another, just before Beau came to pick Khleo up, taking her straight to the hotel she'll be staying at before her show.
"I had a nice time." She says smiling at the basketball star, outside the shop, Beau patiently waiting for her in his car, parked out front.
"Me too, we should do this again" Nika says before pulling out her phone and handing it to the girl "Put your number in, bebó"
'She called me that, twice!' Blushing at the name, she does so, adding her name with a heart and handing the phone over to her. Nika chuckles at the heart and walks her over to the car, saying a brief greeting to Beau.
Just as they were about to drive off, she pecked Khleo on the cheek, pulling back with a smirk. "See you around, pretty."
With a shy smile, she waved at her and the car pulled out of the parking area, and off they went, while she sat in her sit, silently trying to calm her nerves, Beau was on the phone with his sister, talking about what he just witnessed.
"You are seriously whipped girl, look at you blush!" Beau teases as Bonnie starts singing in the background about her and Nika sitting in a tree.
"Guys...stop" Khleo whines as the twins laugh at the whole scenario.
Little did Khleo know, Nika and her friends were planning to attend her concert. They were excited to see her perform and to cheer her on. Nika couldn't wait to see Khleo shine on stage, especially knowing how nervous she had been earlier that day.
