I woke up in a fresh start at four o'clock in the morning to start my day. Vee was snoring bluntly on her side of the bed when I opened my eyes.
I got out of the bedroom to brush my teeth and proceeded to change up. It wasn't a normal day; everyone in the world knows that.
I did my hair in a lazy bun until I was finished putting on my nursing scrubs to feel done.
I took my keys and bag after leaving a note for Vee saying I was leaving early since the drive there is half an hour and she knows I would kill myself if I'm a second late on my first day.
It was drizzling outside, signaling a storm might strike while I was driving all the way to the estate. Throughout the drive, I was nibbling a fucking banana whom I found in my bag before I left. Since it was still in good shape, I assume it's not rotten yet that would lead me to shitting my pants later on.
"God, pacify me." I muttered to myself when the streetlight turned red when I was supposed to drive to the other side. Fuck you.
Finally after five minutes, the light turned green again. I sped up to the highway, not caring for the traffic I'm causing.
I reached the estate at exactly five thirty o'clock in a swift U-turn for crossing the line. Perfect.
"Name?" The guard asked me sternly with a suspicious look.
"Gwen Mildred." I replied with a fake smile on my face, clearly so fucking annoyed by them thinking I'm a culprit.
When the guard checked the record list, his face lit up from suspicion to embarrassment. "Ms. Mildred! What a surprise to see you this early!" The guard spoke, embarrassed when realization hit him.
I let out a small chuckle before fixing my composure again. "That's who I am," I remarked with a smile.
The guard, whom he introduced himself as Sean, welcomed me from the opposite of his attitude earlier. He was motherfucking nice and even asked me random questions not too personally. Amazingly aggressive.
We both entered the mansion where I was greeted nicely as if I was the lady of the house. What a shitty coincidence.
"Ah, Ms. Mildred," Mr. Quinns came out of nowhere from the hallway, holding a little girl whose hair was on pigtails.
"This is my youngest, Bea. The one you're going to be taking care of." Mr. Quinns remarked in a proud tone.
The child looked so pale, but she was placing a heartwarming smile on her face. "Hello, little one." I leaned down and chimed sweetly, making the girl's smile grow wider and more heart touching.
Then, her eyes sparkled when she looked at my hair, as if she saw heaven. "Wow, I love your hair." Bea giggled cutely as she touched my hair with her tiny fingers.
My heartstrings tugged when she suddenly lifted her arms, wanting me to carry her. I took her little frame and carried her, feeling her head leaning against my chest as her small hand wrapped around my index finger.
"I better get going now. See you later, little one." Mr. Quinns spoke before leaving Bea a forehead kiss and leaving the room, eventually leaving the mansion.
One of the maids, Rina, led me to Bea's bedroom and asked me if I needed anything to settle things down.
When Bea and I were finally left alone, Bea spoke up in her cute tone. "I still don't understand why you're so beautiful, Ms. Mildred." She admitted, making me chuckle from her curiosity.
"And I still don't understand why you have to be so cute all the time, little one." I spoke playfully before her giggles filled the room. God, I'm already loving this.
The day glimmered on with me occasionally giving Bea her medicines at the right time like my job is set.
"That's yucky!" Bea whined, not wanting to take her third medicine. I let out a sigh, not wanting to pressure her on gulping it down to her throat. Why? Even the smell is fucking disgusting as hell.
I settled the spoon aside and clutched down in front of her, looking at her straight with pleading eyes.
"Bea, love, please. You need to do this, okay? I know you don't want to do so but, it's for you to get better." I begged pleadingly, my voice hushed and soft.
Bea pouted, crossing her arms around. "Fine, but when I get better, will I no longer take this?" She asked in a tone of both cuteness and seething anger.
My heart softened further, gathering her hands and holding it gently. "I promise, little one. I promise." I admitted before drawing the spoon to her mouth. And this time, she just obeyed. What a child.
The sixth of the clock striked, which called for the entire Quinns family to arrive back to the estate. My socks have been quietly sweaty for almost two hours of me sitting in the staff room with Rina as we both waited for our roles to be played.
"How's life with Bea?" She asked curiously to get my attention and snap me out of the depths of thoughts.
"I'd say she's amazing. Well, kinda bit stubborn when it comes to medicines, but I got over it." I chuckled, popping a gum to my mouth to calm my sweaty feet down even when it would never ever.
Approximately after a three minute chit chat, I was called for Bea's medicine and also nebulization.
Probably a yay or fucking nay.
The medication was fucking tough at first since Bea was being stubborn again but my ass managed to pull through that storm.
Next up, nebulization.
I carried her small frame gently to the living room where the nebulizer awaited her.
"Ms. Mildred?" Bea spoke up, her voice hinting on both fear and curiosity.
"Yes, little one?" I asked as I poured the medicine to the medicine cup of the nebulizer.
Bea was about to ask the question when the doors flung open with a loud thud, causing Bea to jump.
It was Sheena Quinns, I assumed. Her long dark hair and Hazel eyes says it that she's her father's daughter.
Therefore there was one-one person that really caught my eye. Those messy brown hair and green eyes really made my eye twitch for a split second. And for some reason, he looked.... familiar.
