Gemma's POV.

After the doctor leaves, Dmitri slowly approaches me. Alarm bells go off in my head, and I quickly step back.

"Am I really that scary?" Dmitri asks.

"Yes," I answer without a moment's hesitation.

"I just want to be with you," Dmitri says.

"But you never care if I want to be with you. You just can't stand the idea of failing, all for the sake of your pathetic ego."

Hearing this, Dmitri's lips curl into a smile. "Gemma, you have no idea how important you are to me."

Then, he lunges at me.

As I struggle, I tear off the bandage on my hand, and my wound reopens, blood dripping out.

"Let go!" I growl, "Or I'll die right here!!!"

"Let go?" Dmitri softly repeats my words, "The last time I let go, I lost you for four whole years. This time, I won't."

After he says that, he grabs the scissors meant for cutting the bandages and quickly slashes his own wrist.

Blood gushes from his wrist, and amidst the smell of blood, he presses me onto the bed.

"Even if we die, we'll die together," Dmitri leans down and kisses my neck.

I stare at the ceiling. The incandescent lamp with its dark green vintage lampshade above me seems to be shaking violently. My wrist aches, my head hurts, and Dmitri's body feels heavy.

I feel like I only have one breath of air left in my lungs, and with that last bit of air, I rasp out the words I most want to say from my heart.

"Luke Shaw! You bastard! Where the hell are you?!"

In this most dangerous moment, the only person I think of is Luke. As I face death, I only want to see him one last time.

Maybe I shouted too loudly because the echo is intense—I hear footsteps on the stairs outside, and they're getting closer. It even sounds like the click-clack of shoes.

A few seconds later, the door is kicked open, and the weight of Dmitri on top of me suddenly disappears—someone pulls him off and punches him to the ground.

Then, I see Luke's face.

Dmitri isn't weak either; he gets back up and immediately starts fighting back.

I really want to sit up and watch this exciting fight, but my head gets dizzier and dizzier. I wipe the blood off my wrist with the bedsheet and slowly close my eyes.

When I wake up again, I see Luke sitting next to me.

No, it's a swollen version of Luke, because his once-handsome face is now covered in bruises, making him look twice as big as before.

"Let me introduce myself," Luke says, "I'm the bastard Luke Shaw."

"We... we're still alive?" I ask.

"Mm-hmm, I won."

I look around and realize I'm lying in a hospital bed, with thick bandages around my wrist.

"What about Dmitri?" I ask.

"He's in the hospital too—when we rolled down the stairs, he hit his head and needed over ten stitches. But the police are watching him, and once he's better, he's headed straight to jail."

Luke gently strokes my arm.

"And then what happened?" I ask.

"Then I called an ambulance. Two guys fighting and injured in the living room, and one woman upstairs with a slashed wrist—we almost made the news headlines."

Looking at his swollen face, I think he's more handsome now than ever before.

"Luke, let's get back together."

No matter how we started, when my life was in danger, the only person in my mind was him.

All our past unhappiness ends here. From now on, every day is a fresh start.

He stays silent for a few seconds.

"You don't want to?" I frown slightly.

"I want it, I do." He snaps out of it and leans in, kissing me forcefully on the lips.

I nearly suffocate.

Luke and I reconciled.

Our wards are across from each other. With the doors open, we can play cards across the hallway—it's like we're together all day and night.

But Luke is still not satisfied. He says he wants a room just for the two of us.

I know exactly what's going through this man's head, so I just smile at him, "Your face is too swollen. I can't convince myself to sleep with a balloon."

"We can turn off the lights," Luke replies.

I'm speechless. While speechless, my gaze gets drawn to a tall, handsome doctor walking down the hallway.

I admit my boyfriend is very hot, but it's like owning a cat—admiring other stray cats outside doesn't mean you don't love your own.

While I'm staring at the doctor, I suddenly feel a burning sensation on my right cheek, like it's being seared by a laser. I look up and meet Luke's deep brown eyes.

I immediately look up at the sky and sigh, "Ah, what a nice day."

"Yes, a nice day," Luke replies casually.

But by the afternoon.

My phone suddenly starts buzzing non-stop. Colleagues from work are all texting me, asking, "Gemma, are you serious?"

"Serious about what?" I reply.

"Check the boss's Instagram!"

I open the app and discover that Luke, who never updates his social media, has posted a photo of me. He hasn't said anything in the comments, just a heart emoji.

"When did you two get together?"

"Office romance!"

"you dare to date the cold boss! Oh my god!"

"You guys don't come to work, on honeymoon?"

"..."

I knock on Luke's door. "Was this your doing?"

"Mm-hmm."

"You didn't give me any warning! I wasn't mentally prepared for this. How am I supposed to face my colleagues now?"

"Better get ready," Luke says calmly, "because once we're discharged, we're heading straight to the airport to go back to New York for work."

"Don't you think you're acting like an evil capitalist?" I frown.

"what are you acting then? staring at other men despite having a boyfriend."

I'm at a loss for words.

But when we get back to New York, I don't actually go straight to work.

Luke drags me into his house, strips me bare like a starving wolf, and pounces on me.

The next morning, I wake up feeling like all my bones are shattered. Looking at Luke, who's sleeping soundly beside me after being completely satisfied, I'm so angry my teeth ache. I pounce on him and bite down hard on his arm.

But it's not worth it.

The muscles and bones in Luke's arm hurt my teeth instead.

More importantly, this action wakes the wolf up, and the events of the previous night repeat.

I finally can't help but protest, "Are you really this hungry?"

"This just shows I've been loyal to you. During the time you were gone, I was clean. Besides..."

"Besides what?"

"Besides, now you won't have the energy to cheat on me."
