Flames and Firefights
The days following your first kiss with Tony were a whirlwind of emotions, stolen moments, and secret smiles. Every time you passed each other in the hallways, there was a spark of electricity, a lingering look that told you that neither of you had forgotten what had happened in the lab. But there was more than just attraction. There was an unspoken understanding-a connection that went beyond the teasing banter and witty remarks. You felt it in the way his hand brushed yours when no one was looking, the way his gaze softened when he thought you weren't paying attention.
And yet, life as an Avenger didn't stop for romance. Just when you thought you might have a chance to figure out what this thing between you and Tony really was, the world had other plans.
The mission came in fast-Hydra was back on the radar, and they were hitting hard. A secret base had been uncovered, housing dangerous tech that, in the wrong hands, could mean disaster on a global scale. The team was deployed within hours, and the shift in focus was immediate. The usual teasing from Tony was replaced with his sharp, no-nonsense demeanor, the one he wore when things got serious.
You were in the Quinjet, surrounded by the team, suited up and ready for the fight ahead. Tony sat across from you, his helmet resting in his lap. His eyes caught yours, and for a moment, the tension of the mission melted away. His gaze was steady, comforting, and it gave you a strange sense of peace in the midst of the chaos.
"You good?" he asked, his voice low enough that only you could hear.
You nodded, trying to push away the nervous butterflies in your stomach. "I'm fine," you replied, though your heart was racing for more than one reason.
Tony gave you a small, almost imperceptible smile. "Stay close to me out there," he murmured before putting on his helmet. The moment was fleeting, but it stayed with you long after the battle began.
The drop into enemy territory was chaotic. The Hydra base was deep in a dense forest, and as soon as the Quinjet touched down, gunfire erupted from the treeline. The team split up, each of you moving through the shadows, working to disable the outer defenses and break into the heart of the base.
Tony was a flash of red and gold in the chaos, his repulsors lighting up the night as he took out enemy after enemy with precision and ease. You fought alongside Natasha and Clint, the three of you moving in sync as you cleared the path toward the main entrance. Every now and then, you caught a glimpse of Tony in the distance, and each time, your heart leapt, both in admiration and fear. He was in his element, but you couldn't shake the worry that came with every mission.
As you neared the base's entrance, an explosion rocked the ground beneath you. A fireball erupted from one of the Hydra tanks, and suddenly, the quiet of the night was shattered by a barrage of gunfire and explosions. Your team was pinned down, and the situation was quickly spiraling out of control.
"Fall back!" Steve's voice crackled over the comms, but the Hydra forces were relentless, their soldiers pouring out of the base like a swarm of locusts.
You ducked behind a fallen tree, your heart racing as bullets whizzed overhead. Sweat dripped down your brow, and your breath came in short, panicked bursts. This wasn't good. Hydra was prepared, far more prepared than anyone had anticipated.
"Hold on!" Tony's voice came through your earpiece, and within seconds, he was there-hovering above the battlefield in his suit, a determined gleam in his eyes. "I'm coming in hot," he warned, and then he was diving down, repulsors blazing as he cut through the Hydra forces like a meteor streaking through the sky.
For a moment, you were awestruck. The way he moved, the power in his strikes, the confidence in every action-it was a reminder of why Tony Stark was more than just a genius in a suit. He was a hero, and you couldn't help but feel a swell of pride-and something deeper-watching him in action.
But Hydra wasn't going down without a fight. A blast of energy erupted from the base, hitting Tony square in the chest. He spiraled out of control, crashing hard into the ground with a sickening thud. Your heart stopped in your chest as you watched him fall.
"Tony!" you screamed, abandoning your cover and sprinting toward where he had landed. The battlefield blurred around you as your focus narrowed to the one thing that mattered-reaching him.
You found him in the wreckage of his landing, his suit sparking, the arc reactor flickering dangerously. He groaned as he tried to sit up, but the pain was evident in his every movement.
"Stay down!" you ordered, dropping to your knees beside him, your hands trembling as you touched his suit, checking for damage.
"I'm fine," he grunted, but his voice was strained, and you could see the strain in his eyes through the cracked visor of his helmet.
"Fine?" you shot back, your voice shaky with panic and anger. "You just got blasted out of the sky, Tony!"
He chuckled weakly, though the sound was more pained than amused. "Could've been worse," he muttered, but his hand reached up to touch yours, his fingers wrapping around yours in a way that made your heart skip a beat.
For a moment, the battle raging around you disappeared. All you could see was Tony, his eyes locked on yours, his expression soft despite the chaos. "I told you to stay close," he murmured, his voice quieter now, more vulnerable.
You swallowed hard, trying to push back the wave of emotions crashing over you. "I thought I lost you," you whispered, your voice barely audible above the noise of the battlefield.
Tony's grip on your hand tightened slightly, and his eyes softened even more. "You're not losing me," he said, his voice filled with a quiet determination that made your heart ache.
But before you could say anything more, an explosion nearby snapped you both back to reality. The battle wasn't over, and the Hydra forces were closing in. You helped Tony to his feet, and despite the damage to his suit, he was back in action in seconds, his repulsors flaring to life.
"Let's finish this," he said, his voice steady and strong again.
The two of you fought side by side, cutting through the remaining Hydra soldiers with precision and skill. It was like the world had shifted, and suddenly, you were in perfect sync, moving as one. Every glance, every movement, it was like you knew exactly what the other was going to do before it even happened.
When the final Hydra soldier fell, and the base was secure, you stood amidst the wreckage, breathing heavily, your heart still racing from the adrenaline of the fight. Tony landed beside you, his suit battered and smoking, but his expression was triumphant.
"Not bad for a day's work," he quipped, though there was a softness in his eyes that hadn't been there before.
You couldn't help but smile, despite the exhaustion weighing on you. "Not bad at all."
And then, before you could even process what was happening, Tony reached out and pulled you into his arms. His suit was still hot to the touch, but you didn't care. He kissed you-hard and fast, like he couldn't wait another second. The world around you faded into nothing, and for that moment, it was just the two of you, standing amidst the wreckage of battle, holding onto each other like lifelines.
When he finally pulled back, his eyes were filled with a mix of relief and something deeper, something you weren't quite ready to name. "I told you," he whispered, his forehead resting against yours, "you're not losing me."
And as you stood there, wrapped in his arms, the weight of everything that had happened-every fight, every near-miss, every stolen moment-suddenly seemed worth it. Because you knew, no matter what came next, you and Tony were in this together.
And nothing could stop that.
