Spiritkit

Kill Scarface?  Spiritkit thought, her mind racing with a million questions as she sat at the entrance of the nursery. They want to kill our deputy?  She narrowed her eyes, feeling an uncomfortable twinge rest in her stomach.

Who would do such a ruthless thing? Especially a CloudClan warrior. At this point, they didn't even deserve the name warriors. But was there more going on in their clan then met the eye?

A silence elapsed the camp, cats eyes wide with surprise and their fur ruffled. How disturbing this must be to everyone. Suddenly another cry broke the quietness, and this time it wasn't of pain. It was of warning. Now, cats leapt to action. Scarface was trying to warn them! If Spiritkit had learnt anything while being stuck in camp for all these moons, it had been the warning call. LightningClan cats specialized in it, and it was something the other Clans weren't aware of.

But as just a kit, she could do nothing to help except stay out of everyones way and get ushered inside the nursery by her mother.

"In the nest." She said soothingly, obviously not wanting to panic her three children. But with the chaos outside the den, it was kind of clear that panic was the whole theme right now. Scarface was one of the bravest warriors in the clans, and to hear such a scared warning call was very alarming. Could it be possible that there was an attack on its way?

"Mother, I'm scared." Soulkit whispered, his little blue eyes wide and glistening as he protectively wrapped his tail around Crystalkit's fragile legs. She nodded slowly, as if that was a fair statement. And sure as StarClan it was.

Suddenly everything went quiet outside, as if cats just stopped everything. Spiritkit I saw through a peek in the bracken wall that cats were just staring. Staring at the entrance to the thorn tunnel. Her heart beat so fast she swear that she could hear it as if it were in her ears. It seemed as though her blood was curdling. She could hear the heavy breathing of Soulkit and Crystalkit next to her body.

Greycloud came bursting into the den. "Don't move from the nursery. There is a patrol coming. And it doesn't look good." She whispered, her eyes wild with terror. Spiritkit thought exactly what Greycloud said next. "I think...I think they have Scarface with them."

"We might be having a battle for the first time in seasons." And as if her words signalled something, yowls escaped cats throats and the poor kits ears were filled with the noise of crashing. Spiritkit choked back a sob, watching as Greycloud worriedly glanced her way before scurrying to stand guard at the entrance. She tried to peek at the grey warriors expression, and now she wish she didn't. It was filled of horror.

The body of Snowwing was suddenly curled around them, and her nose was pushed deep into their jumble of fur. "It'll all be over soon. Don't worry." Yet the comfort of a mother's words weren't always match to the striking terror of imagination.

"No....no!" Greycloud suddenly yelled, and before Spiritkit could even blink, she was gone from the entrance. She's gone! We're vulnerable! Spiritkit wailed, catching the others attention. She didn't want to be attacked.

Then once again, the rustle of bushes and everything fell silent. Except for Greycloud's panicked and angry snarls, of course. Spiritkit couldn't tell if that was good or bad. Cloudfluff came bursting into the den, blood splattered over his white fur and scaring the pelt off the kits.

"It's okay, they're gone now. We scared them off." He said, his voice soft and gentle but his face full of grief. Oh no. Who died?

Snowwing's face was grave. She was clearly thinking the same thing.

"Two." Spiritkit's father's voice cracked. "Two deaths. Two terrible deaths...but..." He broke off, shaking his head before backing out of the den.

"Mother?' Crystalkit stared wide up at Snowwing.

"We're not going anywhere quite yet. It's over. But I think it's best we stay he- Spiritkit!" She cried. Spiritkit had gotten to her paws and ran out to the heart of the camp. She couldn't take it. She had to see what happened.

Her head seemed to spin and spin, and then take off to space. Lying on the ground, surrounded by several warriors, were Scarface. And Stormstar.

Stormstar! Her mind swirled. The leader had been stripped of a life. Or could this have been his last one? What would they do without a leader and a deputy? But then relieved sighs sounded around as the leader staggered to get to his paws. He had more. He was okay now.

"Out of the way!" A worried yet muffled voice sounded, and cats cleared the way so Firefern and her apprentice Webpaw could get through. They had herbs grasped firmly in their jaws.

"What are you doing out here?" Greycloud was suddenly in front of her.

"I-I-..." She stuttered. "I just wanted to see what was happening."

"This is not a scene for a young kit like you to be observing right now. Didn't your mother at all tell you to stay put?" Her kin said sternly.

"I'll be an apprentice soon!" She said defensively, despite how stupid she knew she sounded. Well, she did have to toughen up for when she was a warrior, didn't she? What a mousebrain I am!  And I'm about to ask a stupid question....

"How many lives does Stormstar have left?" her voice squeaked nervously. Greycloud paused before answering.

"I'm not sure. Only Scarface knew... and Firefern and Webpaw of course." She said. Spiritkit looked over, trying to catch a final glimpse of Scarface. Only matted tortoiseshell fur. Sorrelflame and Snowdapple were also missing. They must've retreated with their clan.

"Did any CloudClan cat say something before they scattered?" The white furred kit asked.

Greycloud nodded. "All we have to know is that Scarface is a hero. If he didn't warn us, several more of us could be dead. He knew he'd get killed if he did such a thing. CloudClan wanted to retrieve their warriors from here, but it turned to something far far worse." Her voice cracked.

Spiritkit's heart lurched for probably the hundredth time that day. She looked at the sky, which was now growing darker with every passing moment. She wanted to scream. Life was so peaceful, then their idiot neighbours had to come and cause trouble for what reason? What was even the point of clans, if all they did was just terrible things?

No words could even describe how much of a hero Scarface was.

Scarface was a true warrior.
