Chris POV:
I was in the back of the jeep as Zach smashed through one of the old gates, speeding along the rough road. I rested my head against Marcus' shoulder. "Wait till Mum hears about this," I joked, chuckling.
Marcus brushed my hair gently, a small smile playing on his lips. "Probably best we don't tell her," he replied, shaking his head.
Up front, Gray glanced into the rear-view mirror and froze, his eyes widening. "Go, go, go!" he yelled, his voice tight with urgency. I looked up and saw what had him so panicked — dozens of Pteranodons circling above us. Zach quickly switched gears, slamming his foot on the gas, the jeep roaring faster down the road.
Marcus rummaged around in the backseat, desperate to find something, anything, to defend us. His hand landed on an old, rusty flare gun with a single round. He inspected it doubtfully. "I don't think this thing will even fire... but I'm keeping it anyway," he muttered, tucking it into his jacket.
In the distance, I spotted the iconic gates of Jurassic World. Hope surged through me, and I stood up, waving my arms frantically, trying to warn the guards. Before I could get their attention, Marcus yanked me back down, just in time to avoid a Pteranodon swooping dangerously close.
We made it safely inside the gates, though the guards seemed blissfully unaware of the danger hovering just above. Once we were inside, we regrouped. Marcus, Zach, Gray, and I moved quickly, determined to find their aunt Claire and our dad. But instead, we ran into Claire's assistant, Zara.
Chaos erupted in the main street as the Pteranodons swarmed down, attacking anything in sight. Screams filled the air as people were grabbed by the creatures, though none were lifted completely off the ground. They were relentless, even turning their fury on the smaller dinosaurs on display, tearing through them for sport.
Panic set in as they swarmed all around us, and my heart raced with anxiety at the thought of being snatched by one of those flying terrors. Zara had stopped running, just a few meters ahead, looking back at me. "Don't just stand there!" she shouted, but before I could react, a Pteranodon swooped down and grabbed her.
I watched in horror as Zara was lifted high into the air, struggling in the creature's grasp. Just as quickly, the Pteranodon let her go, only for another one to snatch her mid-fall, as if they were playing a cruel game. Then it too released her, sending her plummeting down towards the lagoon below.
We sprinted toward the water's edge, helpless as we watched another Pteranodon dive down to attack Zara, thrashing helplessly in the water. I knew what was coming, but it didn't make it any less terrifying. Out of nowhere, the Mosasaurus erupted from the water, its massive jaws snapping shut around Zara and the Pteranodon in one devastating bite. Both were dragged below the surface, disappearing into the depths of the lagoon.
We stood frozen, the weight of what we had just witnessed sinking in. There was no saving her now.
"Chris, look out!" Marcus shouted, shoving me to the side just as a Pteranodon swooped down and grabbed hold of his jacket, lifting him into the air.
"Marcus!" I screamed, rushing forward to go after him, but Gray and Zach grabbed my arms, holding me back.
Thinking fast, Marcus managed to slide out of his jacket, dropping back down to the ground. He landed with a thud, but the impact caused him to twist his ankle, and he keeled over in pain. The Pteranodon circled back, diving down toward him.
My heart stopped as I watched it close in on him, but at the last second, Dad appeared out of nowhere, tackling Marcus out of the way. He quickly raised his rifle and fired, bringing the Pteranodon down with a tranquilizer round.
