ESSENCE POV
NOLA

This is all apart God's plan, you have to be patient, everything will come together.

Eda's words replay in my head while drinking my morning tea. A lone tear escapes my eye and rolls down my face as I stare off into the distance.

"Ma, what are you thinking about?" Adore walks into the kitchen shaking me from my deep thought.

"your grandmother and our last conversation." i tight lip smile and she nods.

"i still can't believe she's really gone. i miss her." Adore frowns, closing the fridge. she sits beside me and places her hand on top of mine.

"me too. you ready for school?" i raise a brow at her and she nods. "i have to get my macbook from my room and I'll be ready to go." she says getting up and taking her water with her.

I finish the rest of my tea, placing the cup into the sink and exit the kitchen. I grab my purse off the coffee table and head toward the door, stopping in my tracks.

"i wish you were here with us baby boy, but i know you are playing up there with your nana and tt's. keep watching over us, warrior." a small pout edges my face as i kiss his picture hanging up beside the door.

I exhale deeply, opening and closing the door behind me. I walk out to my car, unlocking the doors and getting inside.

A short while later, Adore runs out of the house to the car getting into the passenger seat. "I miss him too, mommy." she says making me blink away tears.

Ten years might have passed, but the memory of my son will always stay with me forever.

The day i woke up in the hospital being informed that everyone that was in the car with me died will stay with me forever.

"Me too. Every day." I respond, focusing on the road ahead of me.

After the accident I had an extreme fear of driving, i wouldn't get in the passenger seat of a car for the first three years.

"Your birthday is coming up, have you thought about what you want to do?" I ask changing the subject before i begin to get emotional.

"Not really, but i don't want to have a sleepover." she grimaces turning the volume down on the radio.

"okay, that's fair. if you decide let me know okay. have a good day at school, i love you." i smile pulling into the parking lot since there wasn't a carpool line.
