Yosei's POV
Apparently, the so- called avatar is arriving in Zaofu today. There's buzz all around the city but mainly in our house. Opal seems ecstatic, the twins are interested to meet them and Huan wants to show off his creations. I haven't really interacted with Baatar Jr. or Kuvira so I'm not sure about them. The news about the red lotus is spreading like wildfire.
My mom tasked me with making a book about the red lotus, from the origins to each member's exact abilities. I was studying anthropology and often made books of my own which sold for quite a lot. I kept a copy of them for myself just in case.
Grabbing a leather cover, I attach the pages and dip my quill into ink. As I grab all the supplies and books I need, a knock on my door interrupts me.
Soon enough, my sister Opal opens the door, "Good morning!" "Hi Opal," I tiredly say, not even trying to match her cheery tone. "Come on, let's go meet Korra," she enthusiastically responds. I sigh, "I've already eaten dinner," gesturing to the empty plate next to me. "Come on, it's not just dinner, this is our opportunity to meet the avatar," Opal pleads. "No way," I finish, shoving her out of my room.
"Mom's gonna yell at you," Opal said in a sing- song voice. I groaned and reluctantly followed my annoyingly cheerful sister out of the doors of my room and into our dining room. It was vast and beautiful (I didn't really watch this part so sry if I get this part wrong) with a glass chandelier all shades of green that glistened in the light. The wallpaper was simple yet elegant, and the private chef had already cooked the meal.
At the table sat mom, dad, Baatar Jr. , Huan, Wei, Wong, the avatar and her friends and Lin Beifong. "What is aunt Lin doing here?" I whispered to Opal. "Mom and her made up and she's going to stay for a while," Opal responded through a smile. "Great, more visitors," I muttered under my breath.
Mako's PoV
As the chef brought out the appetizers, two girls entered. One was Opal, the girl he'd already met but the other seemed different. She had sleek black hair that was slightly wavy and styled down and she was wearing an emerald green dress that ended just above her knees and had a layer of sheer fabric on her skirt. There was a small necklace that had the fire symbol which confused me slightly, as it contrasted to the rest of her outfit.
She looked slightly bored like she needed to get out of the place, and she glanced uncomfortably at me as well as Korra, Asami, Bolin and Lin. Something about her golden gaze made me feel queasy. I got so caught up in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed she and her sister had already walked up to me.
"Sorry to bother you but you're in our seats, could you please move?" Opal asked politely. "Ye- No!" I quickly cut off Bolin as Opal sighed and almost walked away, but a hand grabbed her wrist instantly. "Move, or I'll make you," The girl said in a calm manner but there was anger hidden deep in her eyes. "No way," I responded. Bolin and Opal exchanged an awkward glance. "Why are you such a pain?" The girl asked, much less politely than Opal, with a hint of frustration.
"Because I'm not a pushover," I said, looking straight at Bolin. Bolin shrugged, not really caring. Suyin came and whispered something in both of the girls' ears before they sat across the room.
After a while, she seemed to be less tense and started talking to Korra about something I couldn't hear. Soon enough, she apologized to me. "Sorry for acting weird earlier, but Opal and I always sit there," she said. "It's ok." "I'm Yosei," she greeted. "Mako," I responded.
The room seemed way less tense as everyone was eating and talking. Even Lin and Suyin were getting along, and considering they were fighting a few hours ago, I'd consider that better.
Every person seemed to get along smoothly, until an interesting sight caught my eye. Aiwei wasn't participating at all, and Yosei seemed to be glaring at him for no reason. She had a suspicious look in her eye as if he had done something.
Opal's POVI'm so glad my sister has finally gotten used to the visitors but she still found Aiwei suspicious. We had known him since we were little, but Yosei had something telling her he was evil. I had to admit, he was a little mysterious. Always meditating and a truthseer. When we were young, Baatar Jr. managed to convince us that he was a wizard.
Mom seemed to be having a much better time than I'd thought. "Korra's training starts tomorrow," she muttered. "Hi mom," I greeted. "Good evening honey," she replied absentmindedly. "What's wrong?" I asked. "Nothing, I just feel like I'm not strong enough to protect the city if the red lotus attacks," Suyin confessed. "Mom, you're the second strongest person I know," I assured her. "Who's first?" She asked back. "My sister," I answered. Mom chuckled, "Fair enough, she doesn't know how to care deeply so she can't be broken."
I nodded sadly, I wonder if she would ever find love and happiness in anyone. Looking across the room at her sitting quietly at her seat, attempting to sneak a book under the table, I thought that might be impossible.
Dinner ended soon and I was reminded about the avatar's metalbending teaching the next day the whole journey back to my room. Yosei followed, looking distracted by something, but I realized she was just looking out for dangers.
"Goodnight," I wished my sister. "I'm not going to sleep tonight," she replied. "Why?" I asked, oblivious. "I have a bad feeling about tonight," she said. "Okay," I retorted, worried. She would definitely have a lack of sleep but it's not like could do anything about it.
