(A/n: Just imagine, this is how it looks)
In a quiet town nestled at the edge of a thick forest, there was a legend passed down through generations. People spoke of a tall, skeletal creature that roamed the woods at night, a being with no eyes and a smile so twisted it could freeze your blood.
One night, Ellie, a young woman who didn't believe in legends, decided to prove the creature was just a story. She packed a flashlight, some snacks, and her phone, heading into the forest where no one dared to go after sunset. The trees closed in around her as she wandered deeper, their branches clawing at the sky like bony fingers.
Hours passed without incident, and Ellie started laughing to herself, thinking how silly the town's people were for believing in ghost stories. She decided to rest by a large tree and pulled out her phone. As she was about to take a selfie to document her "fearless" adventure, her phone flickered and then died, even though it was fully charged moments earlier. The air around her grew unnaturally cold, and a low rustling sound echoed through the trees.
Ellie's heart began to race as the sound grew louder. She shone her flashlight into the distance, but the beam barely cut through the thick mist that had suddenly appeared. Her breath quickened, turning into short, panicked gasps.
Then, she saw it.
At first, it looked like a tree, standing impossibly still. But as she squinted into the fog, the shape became clearer. A towering figure, thin and impossibly tall, its bony frame stretched like skin barely covering bones. Its head was tilted unnaturally to the side, and where eyes should have been, there were only hollow, empty sockets. But the worst part was its mouth-spread into a long, twisted grin, lips stretched too wide, teeth too sharp, as if it were mimicking human expression without knowing how.
Ellie froze, her flashlight trembling in her hand. The creature stood there, motionless, watching her with those empty sockets, yet somehow, she knew it could see her. The smile widened, as if sensing her fear.
Her legs finally obeyed her panicked mind, and she bolted. The sound of snapping twigs and crunching leaves followed her, far too close, but when she dared a glance over her shoulder, there was nothing. No creature. Only the sound of footsteps closing in.
Ellie ran faster than she ever had before, but no matter how far she sprinted, the cold breath of the creature seemed to be right behind her. Her chest ached, her legs screamed in pain, but she didn't stop until she burst through the edge of the forest, collapsing on the ground near the town.
When she looked back into the woods, it was gone.
For days after, Ellie thought she had escaped. She never spoke of the creature to anyone, convinced it was a hallucination brought on by her fear. But at night, when she closed her eyes, she would see it. Its long, skeletal frame. Its hollow eyes. And that smile... always that smile.
Then one night, she woke to the sound of rustling outside her window. Her heart pounded in her chest as she slowly turned her head. Through the glass, she saw it standing there, its face pressed against the pane, that same twisted grin spreading wider than before.
It had followed her home.
And now, it was waiting.
