It was late October, and Franklin High had long been rumored to have secrets hidden in its foundations. Most students brushed off the stories as myths passed down from graduating class to graduating class, but a few whispered rumors about what had happened one night years ago in Room 312.

Room 312 sat at the very end of the third-floor corridor, tucked away from the other classrooms. It was always cold, no matter how high the heat was turned up. A shadow hung around it that even teachers seemed to avoid, redirecting students who accidentally wandered too close. Everyone knew that the old science teacher, Mr. Gardner, had once taught in Room 312, but one day he vanished-no farewell, no explanations. Just an empty classroom and unanswered questions.

One October night, Marcus, a senior dared by his friends to "stay overnight" in the school, found himself wandering the darkened hallways. He was alone, a flashlight trembling in his hand, the sounds of his footsteps amplified by the silence. His friends had left him an hour earlier, laughing as they disappeared into the night, expecting him to chicken out within minutes.

As he passed Room 312, Marcus felt an icy gust of air leak from beneath the door, as if something was breathing from inside. He tried to shake off the fear, but curiosity got the better of him. He reached for the door handle, which was cold and slick, like it hadn't been touched in years. He turned it and stepped inside.

The air was thicker in the room, carrying a metallic tang that made him swallow hard. The desks were covered in a thick layer of dust, except for one. Marcus's flashlight flickered, illuminating the back row. There sat an old notebook, open to a page filled with strange symbols and what looked like a date scrawled in the margin: October 23, 1987-the night Mr. Gardner vanished.

The room seemed to hum with energy as he stared at the date. The words blurred on the page, twisting and rearranging themselves into a message: "HELP ME." The lights overhead began to flicker, buzzing with a low, menacing hum. A cold wind swept through, slamming the door shut behind him.

Marcus's heart pounded as he heard footsteps echo from somewhere in the shadows. A dark figure appeared near the chalkboard, its back to him, hunched over. It moved slowly, scraping its fingers down the chalkboard with an agonizing screech. Marcus tried to move, to scream, but his body felt glued in place, as if the room itself had tightened its grip on him.

The figure turned around, revealing the hollow, unblinking eyes of Mr. Gardner-pale, his skin thin and stretched over his bones, his mouth twisted into a silent scream. "Why did you come here?" he rasped, his voice a dry, crackling whisper that filled the silence.

The lights flickered once more, and Mr. Gardner was gone. In his place, words had appeared on the chalkboard: "Find me in the walls."

Before Marcus could process what he'd seen, the walls began to shift. They pulsed, as though something were alive within them, trying to push through. Panicked, he turned, trying to pry open the door, but it wouldn't budge. The walls creaked, growing closer, and he could hear faint whispers, like children crying out in the distance, their voices blending into an eerie chant: "We're still here..."

With a final shove, Marcus forced the door open and stumbled out into the hallway, gasping for air. He ran down the stairs, his footsteps echoing until he burst outside, finally safe in the cold October night.

The next day, he tried to tell his friends, but they laughed it off, accusing him of making it all up. But Marcus never went near Room 312 again. A week later, a janitor found his flashlight inside, resting on an empty desk near the back-beside Mr. Gardner's notebook, now filled with hundreds of names.
