Is it possible to love her again? After what she did? Maybe she'll come back to me! No, that's such a silly and childish thought. Forget that, Hercules.
"Yo, Herc!" Phil called. He had a scroll in his hand and an expression of joy mixed with deep thought on his face. I laughed as he plonked his bum beside me.
"How are you, Philly?" I punched his arm friendly. His face suddenly changed.
"Meg. Meg has changed.. And you're not worried about this? About.. Her?"
Sharply, I inhaled. "Well, no. I think.." I ran my tongue on my lips and my straight teeth. "That if she really loves me, she'll come back. Then she'll apologise." I looked him straight in the eyes.
He seemed more shaken about Megara than I did. Ah well. I decided to think nothing of it.
"Surely you must have been heart broken when you saw them! God, I haven't found love yet, but I know that if I saw that her lips had met another man, I would be broken hearted, but - more this anything - fiercely mad. Why aren't you reacting, Hercules? Why aren't you reacting like I though you would?" In seconds, I stood on my feet.
"I'm not you! I don't react like you because I'm me! Me! Hercules! Megara will come back. I know she will. I'm not mad because I don't need to be. But don't tell me what to do. I don't like that. Be my friend, my trainer, Phil, but don't be like the Gods. Please."
As he spoke, each word, each sentence grew in speed. I was scared. Not for Meg and for her stupidity, but for Hercules. He wasn't right. He was breaking. He was hurting. I knew that. I guess he just didn't like my saying so. "I just - I want to be a good friend to you, Herc. And I want you to be with Meg. She makes you happy, I know she does. I just don't like to see you upset like you are."
"I'm not upset!!" He protested. His emotions had all gone crazy ever since he saw Megara and Hades, but he didn't want to admit it. He would never admit it. However, everyone who knew him well enough to call him their "best acquaintance" would be able to tell that he was lying.
"But you are! Meg is-"
"Don't go on about Meg!!" I could see tears in his eyes. He stamped off without looking back and I instantly regretted being the type of friend that I was.
