She saw him taking something out of his pocket and knew what he was upto. Her breath hitched in her throat. She wasn't ready for this, at this moment.

He extended his hand to her which she gladly held and he slipped her wedding ring into her ring finger leaving behind a gentle caress of his lips on her silken long fingers.

" Are you by any chance gifting me to yourself on this day? " ... Unbelievable.

" Delusional of you to think that " He spoke still holding her hand.

" Your actions counter your words husband "

Just when he backed off to look at her, lights went off. His brows knitted in confusion and he looked around. He raised up on his feet and was about to take a step forward to fix the error but then...

He saw Haya's eyes had started to glow unusually bright. Their surroundings started to light up in a blue hue as if they were being covered in a blanket of blue light.

He slowly looked up.
But Haya Suleman did not. She could not. The sight in front of her eyes seemed to be more serene, more alluring than the view above them. She couldn't even blink her eyes, let alone move her gaze away from his admirable face.

His eyes widened in surprise, her hand still in his warm hold.
His eyes were shining bright.
Bright like embers. Bright like the moon. Bright like...
Stars.

And then his head turned to his side, to her when he heard her say,
" Someone special had told me he loved stars as a child and wanted to witness this once in his life... "

She smiled an uncanny smile. Pure... as similar to ... they looked up

The starfall above them.

Hundreds of stars breaking from the sky and disappearing somewhere in the middle.

None of them was real. It was all an illusion.
A magic.

Among the magical illusion of meteor shower some fixed stars began to appear brighter than the rest.
They formed a pattern appearing brighter one by one. Dot by dot. Star by star. Jihan gulped ...

The pattern was -
' Happy Birthday Jihan '

When that pattern completed she whispered in her soft voice standing next to him..

' Happy Birthday, Major Jihan Sikandar Ahmed! ' He did not say anything. He could not say anything. He could not form any words. He just kept gazing at her shining eyes which seemed to be more alluring than the stars above them.

' Efforts... they matter. '

No one ever did this much for him. Even if they wanted to, he never allowed them, never accepted. As selfish or rude it may sound, he never wanted anything from anyone but ... he was taken aback by his wife's efforts. Her surprise for him. And he would gladly take it all with all his rights.

It was his day, his birthday which he never celebrated after his grandfather. After him, it was just seagulls of Istanbul and Jihan by the Bosphorus. After that it was his first and he wished to celebrate it... celebrate it with his wife.

It hurt him a bit when he thought she wasn't excited for his birthday or wasn't planning anything. Forgetting his birthday was less likely as she had his date of birth as her phone's password. But he had shrugged those feelings off. Now that he looked up, he couldn't help but feel loved and cherished. Even though there was no music playing in the background but he felt as if the stars were singing for them tonight.

Why should always men be the ones to make their women feel cherished. Women can do that too.

Haya Suleman being the standard woman, would never leave a chance to make her man feel valued, feel that he matters. His smile matters.
