The morning light filtered softly through the curtains, casting long shadows on the apartment floor. Jungkook stirred awake on the couch, his body wrapped in the warmth of a blanket Jin must have placed over him during the night. His mind felt heavy, still tangled in the events of the previous evening.
He had kissed Jin. And Jin had kissed him back. The memory of their lips meeting sent a wave of confusion crashing over him again, mixing guilt with the faintest twinge of something else-something he couldn't quite name.
Jin was already awake, standing by the kitchen counter, his back turned as he poured coffee into two mugs. The quiet clink of the cups was the only sound in the room. There was a stillness between them now, not quite uncomfortable but far from easy. Neither knew how to navigate the intimacy they had shared, and the silence seemed to stretch with each passing second.
Jungkook sat up slowly, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. His heart pounded, unsure of what to say or how to face Jin. The emotions from last night still lingered, raw and unresolved, like a wound left open. He wanted to speak, but every word seemed too complicated.
"Morning," Jin said quietly, breaking the silence without turning to face him.
"Morning," Jungkook replied, his voice rough from sleep. He stood up, walking over to the kitchen, unsure of how to approach the conversation that needed to happen. As he reached for the coffee mug Jin handed him, their fingers brushed, sending a jolt of electricity through his body.
Jin glanced up at him, eyes heavy with the same mix of emotions Jungkook felt. "About last night..."
Jungkook looked down into his coffee, the steam curling up in front of his face. "Yeah," he said quietly, not really sure where to start. The memories of their kiss flashed in his mind-the way it had felt both right and wrong at the same time.
Jin leaned back against the counter, crossing his arms, the tension clear in his posture. "I don't regret it," he said after a long pause, his voice steady but soft. "But I don't know if it was... the right thing."
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat. He didn't know if he regretted it either, and that was the hardest part. "I don't know what to feel," he admitted, staring into the dark liquid in his cup. "It's like... part of me still feels like Jan's here. And when I kissed you, I wasn't sure if I was kissing you, or him, or..." His words trailed off, his throat tightening with the weight of everything he couldn't articulate.
Jin exhaled deeply, setting his coffee down. "I get it," he said, his voice soft and understanding. "It's not easy for me either. Every time I'm with you, I think about him too. But..." He paused, searching for the right words. "I know I'm not him. And I don't want you to feel like you're replacing him with me. That's not fair to either of us."
Jungkook nodded, his eyes burning as the truth of Jin's words sank in. "I'm not trying to replace him," he said, his voice cracking. "I just... I miss him so much, and I don't know how to deal with it. I don't know how to move forward without feeling like I'm leaving him behind."
Jin stepped closer, reaching out to gently touch Jungkook's arm. "You don't have to forget him," he said softly. "You'll always carry him with you. But that doesn't mean you can't live, can't feel something new. It doesn't have to be a betrayal."
Jungkook looked up, meeting Jin's eyes. The tenderness there made his heart ache. "Do you think we're just... doing this because I'm grieving?" he asked, his voice trembling. "Or Is this just because I miss him?"
Jin was quiet for a moment, considering the question. "Maybe at first," he admitted, his eyes searching Jungkook's face. "But I don't think that's all it is." He hesitated, then added, "There's something here, Jungkook. Something real. And it's scary, I know. But we can't pretend it doesn't exist."
Jungkook swallowed hard, the lump in his throat making it difficult to speak. "I don't want to hurt you," he whispered. "And I don't want to hurt Jan's memory either."
"You're not," Jin said gently. "Loving someone new doesn't mean you're erasing the person you lost. It means you're healing. And maybe... maybe we can help each other heal."
Jungkook's chest tightened, his emotions swirling inside him. He wanted to believe Jin's words, but the fear of letting go-of moving forward-still clung to him like a shadow. "I don't know if I'm ready," he said quietly, his voice barely audible.
Jin nodded, understanding in his eyes. "That's okay," he said softly. "We don't have to rush anything. We can take it slow, figure it out as we go."
Jungkook looked up, meeting Jin's gaze once more. There was something calming in the way Jin looked at him, something that made the weight on his chest feel a little lighter. "Okay," he whispered, his voice trembling with the uncertainty of the path ahead. "We'll figure it out."
Jin gave a small smile, the tension between them easing just slightly. "We will."
They stood there for a moment longer, the silence between them no longer as heavy, the air no longer as thick. There were still no clear answers, no easy solutions-but they had each other, and for now, that was enough.
Jungkook set his coffee down and reached for Jin's hand, the warmth of his touch grounding him in the present. "Thank you," he whispered.
Jin squeezed his hand gently, a quiet promise of understanding. "You don't have to do this alone, Jungkook."
And in that moment, Jungkook felt, for the first time in a long time, that maybe he didn't have to.
Thanks for standby ☺️
