Jungkook sat behind the wheel, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, but his mind was miles away, lost in memories of a time when things were simpler. The beach they were heading to wasn't just any place-it was Jan's favorite spot, the place where they had spent countless hours together, laughing, talking, and dreaming of a future that no longer existed.
Jin sat in the passenger seat, his hands folded in his lap as he gazed out the window. He knew why they were going there-it would have been Jan and Jungkook's third anniversary today. The thought of it made Jin's heart ache, not just for Jungkook's loss but for his own. This was where Jan had shared his happiest moments, and now, Jin was stepping into those memories, unsure of how to feel.
As they approached the beach, the familiar scent of saltwater filled the car, and the distant sound of waves crashing against the shore grew louder. Jungkook slowed the car, pulling into a small parking lot tucked between the dunes. The beach stretched out before them, empty and quiet, the pale sand glowing softly in the early morning light.
Jungkook parked the car and sat there for a moment, gripping the steering wheel tightly. His chest felt heavy, the weight of the past pressing down on him. This was where he had celebrated so many beautiful moments with Jan, and now, he was here with Jin. It felt strange, like he was treading on sacred ground, unsure if he had the right to be here without Jan by his side.
Jin glanced over at Jungkook, sensing the tension radiating from him. "You don't have to do this, you know," he said softly. "We can go back if it's too much."
Jungkook shook his head, his voice barely a whisper. "No... I want to. I need to."
They stepped out of the car, the cool ocean breeze washing over them as they made their way down the wooden boardwalk that led to the shore. The beach was exactly as Jungkook remembered-quiet, peaceful, with the gentle rhythm of the waves creating a soothing backdrop to the turmoil in his heart.
They walked in silence, the sand crunching softly beneath their feet as they moved toward the spot where Jungkook and Jan had always set up their blanket. As they reached the familiar dune, Jungkook paused, his heart clenching as the memories flooded back. This was where they had shared their first kiss, where they had spent hours talking about their dreams, where they had celebrated their love under the stars.
Jin stood beside him, his eyes scanning the horizon. He could feel the weight of the moment, the presence of Jan's memory hanging in the air between them. "It's beautiful here," he said quietly, his voice gentle but distant, as though he didn't want to intrude on the memories that weren't his.
Jungkook nodded, his throat tight as he struggled to find the words. "It was our place," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Every anniversary, we'd come here. We'd sit on the sand, watch the sunset, and just... be together."
Jin turned to look at Jungkook, his heart aching for him. "I can't imagine how hard this must be for you."
"It is," Jungkook admitted, his eyes fixed on the horizon where the sky met the sea. "But I wanted to come here. I wanted to remember him."
They stood there for a long moment, the sound of the waves the only noise between them. Jin wasn't sure what to say-how could he possibly offer comfort in the face of such deep loss? Instead, he reached out and gently took Jungkook's hand in his, offering silent support.
Jungkook's fingers tightened around Jin's, the warmth of his touch grounding him in the present. He didn't let go, instead pulling Jin down to sit with him on the sand. Together, they sat in the quiet, staring out at the endless expanse of the ocean, the wind playing softly with their hair.
As the sun climbed higher in the sky, casting a golden glow over the water, Jungkook closed his eyes and let the memories wash over him. He could almost see Jan sitting beside him, his smile bright and his laughter echoing in the wind. It was painful, but there was comfort in it too-a reminder that Jan would always be a part of him, even if he wasn't physically there.
Jin sat quietly, his hand still holding Jungkook's. He didn't speak, didn't ask any questions. He knew this wasn't his place to fill the silence-it was Jan's. All he could do was be there, to offer a steady presence for Jungkook as he navigated the depths of his grief.
After what felt like hours, Jungkook finally spoke. "I miss him so much," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the waves. "Every day, I think about him. About what we had, what we lost. And I don't know how to move forward."
Jin's heart ached at the rawness of Jungkook's words. "You don't have to forget him," Jin said gently, echoing the words he had spoken before. "He'll always be with you, in everything you do. But that doesn't mean you can't live your life, Jungkook. You deserve to find happiness again."
Jungkook turned to look at Jin, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "Do I? After everything? After... after what happened between us?"
Jin's gaze softened, and he gently cupped Jungkook's face, wiping away the tear that had escaped down his cheek. "Yes, you do. We both do."
For a moment, they sat there, their faces close, the ocean breeze swirling around them. The connection between them was undeniable, but it was still fragile, delicate-something that neither of them quite knew how to define.
And then, as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, Jungkook did something he hadn't expected. He leaned in, closing the distance between them, his lips finding Jin's in a kiss that was soft, tender, and filled with all the emotions he had been too afraid to confront.
Jin responded without hesitation, his hand sliding to the back of Jungkook's neck as he deepened the kiss, their bodies leaning into each other. It wasn't like the kiss they had shared before, filled with confusion and guilt. This was different. It was filled with understanding, with a shared recognition of their pain and the possibility of something more.
When they finally pulled away, their foreheads rested against each other's, both of them breathing heavily, their hearts racing.
Jungkook closed his eyes, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know what this means."
Jin smiled softly, brushing a thumb over Jungkook's cheek. "We don't have to know right now. We'll figure it out."
As they sat there, the sky turning shades of pink and orange, Jungkook knew that the path ahead wouldn't be easy. There would be more moments of doubt, more memories that would tug at his heart. But for the first time, he felt a glimmer of hope-hope that maybe, just maybe, he could find a way to honor Jan's memory while also allowing himself to move forward, to embrace whatever came next with Jin.
For now, that was enough.
I'm watching too much K-drama, y'know ~~~
