The Noppera-bō (のっぺらぼう) or 野箆坊, or faceless ghost, is a Japanese yōkai that looks like a human but has no face. They are sometimes mistakenly referred to as a mujina, an old Japanese word for a badger or raccoon dog. Although the mujina can assume the form of the other, Noppera-bō are usually disguised as humans. Such creatures were thought to sometimes transform themselves into Noppera-bō in order to frighten humans. Lafcadio Hearn used the animals' name as the title of his story about faceless monsters, probably resulting in the misused terminology.

Noppera-bō are known primarily for frightening humans, but are usually otherwise harmless. They appear at first as ordinary human beings, sometimes impersonating someone familiar to the victim, before causing their features to disappear, leaving a blank, smooth sheet of skin where their face should be.

There are many stories available on the internet about Noppera-bō but I am sharing one of the most popular story about her.

Story of Noppera-bō>

A merchant was walking on a bridge for Kino Kuni Jaka at night. While walking he found a woman crying on the bridge her head was facing down on the river flowing below. Merchant thought that she is going to suicide. He scared and rushed towards her and asked her what happened why are you crying?
She didn't give any response. The merchant asked her again the same question then she hugged him and put her head on his shoulder. When he moved his hands to wipe her tears he found that she doesn't have a face which means her face is totally blank she doesn't have eyes, nose and mouth. The merchant scared and started running in fear. He found a small shop just going to close. He rushed towards it and told the shopkeeper everything about the faceless woman.

The shopkeeper was facing backwards. He responded, "Was she looking like that." After responding the shopkeeper moved forward facing the merchant. To his horror he saw that the shopkeeper also has a blank face. The merchant merchant started running and went home back.

I don't think that he was able to forget about that incident.
