Along came Mr Danvers

Chapter two

Chapter two.
I had lunch with Jacob and his friends, well maybe they'll soon become my friends, it was nice to know i had people to talk to and that i wasn't a total outsider.
"How are you finding it so far?" Finn asked me as he passed my a slice of pizza.
"Not too bad, I'm just glad I'm not eating alone" I laugh.
"What lesson do you have next?" Chloe chipped in.
"Art with miss west" I replied grabbing a few chips from the tray in Jacobs hand.
"Me and Jacob have that too, I'm glad we've got lessons together. it'll give us a chance to get to know each other" Chloe smiled.
"yeah that sounds good, me too at least i'll know someone" I laughed.
"I need a good girl friend, I'm stuck with these two losers" Chloe laughed motioning towards Jacob and Finn.
"Oi" Jacob said with a slight glare throwing a few chips in Chloe's direction.

"thats good, you've got a real talent" Jacob said looking at the picture i'd drawn.
"I find it relaxing y'know" I shrugged, honestly i didn't think it was all that good.
"you should totally help me design my next tattoo" Jacob said.
"You have tattoos?"
"yeah a few" he nodded focusing on his own art work.
"Nice, where'd you get them done?" I ask wondering where he'd be able to get them seeing as he's underage.
"My brothers a tattoo artist, he does them for me" he muttered.
"reckon he do one for me?" I ask
"cant see why not. why what you got in mind?" he says turning to face me.
"I've drawn a couple of sketches of peonies, they're my favourite flower. it'd want it placed here" i explain as i motion to the top of my left arm.
"nice, i'll ask him if you want" he smiled.
"please" i say with a grin.
We both carried on working until the end of the lesson.
"I've got science now babe, what about you?" he asks grabbing his jacket from the back of his chair.
"same, with Mrs loveday" I say as I follow him towards the classroom door.
"me too, i'm glad we've got a fair few lessons together" he says with a smile.
"me too" i smile back.
"Jacob leads the way to the lesson with his hand gently on my waist as he shows me the way.
I decided not to react to this gesture as it probably meant nothing although if i was being honest i rather enjoyed him holding me, even it was only in a innocent simple way.
Science seemed to pass ever so slowly, that might be partly down to the fact that i don't like or understand anything about the subject and partly down to the fact Jacob was seated on the complete opposite side of the room.
i was sat beside a girl called Samantha, she seemed nice but wasn't making an effort to talk to me, which is fine i just don't enjoy sitting in silence for the entire lesson.
"Now we're going to work in pairs for an experiment , these pairs will be the same for the rest of the academic year" Mrs Loveday announced.
She then began pointing at one student randomly and then another until she'd paired everyone up.
To my surprise I was partnered with Jacob, which honestly i was really happy and excited about.
"Ugh you again" I teased rolling my eyes as i sat down beside Jacob.
"cant escape me eh" Jacob laughed nudging me.
We followed the instructions but still struggled to complete the experiment effectively.
"You got any plans on Friday night?" Jacob asked as we began clearing away the equipment.
"Nope" i replied simply.
"Fancy coming to a party at mine, well i say party but theres only six other people coming" he asks.
"sounds good, better than sitting at home alone" I smile.
"great, I'll text you my address or something" he says.
"well you'd have to get my number first"
"can i have your number" Jacob laughs raising his eyebrow.
"why not" i shrug
He passes me his phone from his pocket and i quickly enter my number making sure Mrs Loveday doesn't see and confiscate his phone.
"ta babe" he says giving my arm a squeeze
The lesson quickly ended and with that so did my first day at my new school.
as far as first days go i wouldn't say it was too bad, in fact it was really actually one of the best days i'd had in a while.
meeting new people hadn't seemed half as scary and overwhelming as i'd first imagined. Jacob had welcomed me into his friendship group and made me feel like i fitted in.
"Where abouts do you live?" he asked me as we left the classroom and walked along the small corridor.
"just across the road from the park"
"That's not far from me, we could walk home together if you like" he shrugs.
"Honestly i would be I agreed to see Mr Danvers after school for half an hour or so" I said giving him a smile.
"Oh alright, well I guess I'll see you tomorrow then" He said furrowing his brows a little.
"Yep"
Jacob waved as he headed towards the doors flashing me a smile.
I waved back shaking my head at his enthusiasm.
When I arrived at Mr Danvers classroom the door was shut, i decided it was best to knock before experiment entering entering.
Mr Danvers waved me in through the glass window on the door.
His hair looked a little more dishevelled than it did this morning, I imagine he'd ran his hands through it many a time during the day.
"Thanks for coming back Aaron" he smiled.
"It alright, thank you for offering to help" I replied politely.
Mr Danvers picked up a few books and pieces of paper and placed them on his desk.
"Grab a chair and pull it up" he said sitting down at his desk.
I did so and sat at the desk with him.
"I've managed to get some of the books we'd suggested students read during the summer for you, granted that hardly any of them will have even glanced at them. if you enjoy reading you'll find these helpful" he said motioning towards the pile of four books.
"I enjoy reading, its no hardship" I replied.
"excellent, i like someone who isn't afraid to admit a love for reading" he grinned.
"I've also pulled together a few mock essay questions and some topics that are likely to occur in writing assignments this year. I thought you could take a look at a few in your own time and maybe complete one or two so i can understand what sort of a level you're working at" Mr Danvers continued he ran his hand along his jaw as he finished the sentence.
"Yeah sure, i can do that" I agreed.
"Brilliant, do you have any questions? if not you're more than welcome to go, i wouldn't want to keep you" he asked.
"No not that I can think of"
"Here you go then" Mr Danvers passed me the stack of books and papers.
I dropped them into my handbag before standing up from my seat.
"Have a nice evening Aaron,I'll see you tomorrow" Mr Danvers said as he stood from his seat.
"Thank you, you too Mr Danvers" I grinned before leaving the room.

"How was your first day honey?" Mum asked as I walked into the kitchen, where she was making dinner.
"it was nice, much much better than i'd expected" i smiled sitting down on the counter.
"wonderful, i'm glad you're enjoying it" Mum smiled pouring a glass of water and offering it to me.
Before I had chance to answer my phone buzzed.
Hey babe, hope you had a good first day.
well of course you did, you met me ;)
anyways here's my number. Jacob xx
i smiled possibly a little too much at my phone, obviously catching my mums attention.
"who's texting you? a boy?" She asked her eyebrows raised with a hint of humour in her tone of voice.
"yeah just a friend it made today" I smiled back simply.
"well i'm glad you've made friends" mum said.
I rolled my eyes at her before deciding how to reply to Jacobs text.
Yeah I had a great first day,
although i did meet a rather annoying guy ;)
nah I really am glad to have some friends here xx
I hit send before jumping down from the counter and helping mum set the table ready for dinner
