Tyson's POV

I pulled out my phone and called my private detective.

"Do you still have that file I told you not to give me?" I asked.

"About Miss Burns? Yes, Sir," he replied.

"Bring it over to my apartment," I instructed.

In my frustration, I told him not to mention anything about Val.

I got home, and within an hour, Jerod arrived with the file. He set it down on the table.

I opened it.

As I flipped through the contents of the brown file, anger started to rise within me.

"What's on the pen drive?" I asked.

"The night of the ball, Sir." I quickly inserted it into my PC.

My head was spinning with what I just watched.

My eyes turned towards the door as it opened, revealing the intruder. Emilia walked in. Her expensive heels made a rhythmic click, echoing through the hall as she crossed the marble floor towards where I sat.

I closed my laptop quickly and excused Jerod. She leaned down and kissed my cheeks.

"Oh my lovely unconcerned husband, your mom has invited us to dinner at the mansion," she said as she sat down and crossed her legs, not noticing the deadly aura I was emitting.

"Tell her I'm busy," I informed her.

"Oh please, spare me that. I told her we'll be coming, so you better get ready if you want to put on a show for her," she replied before standing up and walking towards her bedroom.

After some time, Emilia and I reached an agreement. She had a dark past that could land her in jail if exposed. I gathered all the evidence and presented it to her in exchange for her cooperation.

I sighed

In public, we put on a facade of being a strong power couple, but behind closed doors, we were far from that. We had an agreement to stay out of each other's business.

_______

We had just got to the mansion, and a servant led us to the dining hall, even though I insisted I knew my way.

"It's the Madam's order, Sir," she replied.

I was taken aback to find Dylan at the table. I questioned why he lingered even after he found out being in South Africa was my plan of keeping him away from Val, but it all made sense when I spotted him with a pregnant woman, her baby bump on display. The sight triggered thoughts of how Valerie would appear carrying my child. I shook my head to dispel those unsettling thoughts.

"What's wrong, son? I've been talking to you for a while now, yet you seem lost in thought," the woman I called mom said.

I shook my head.

"Sorry. What did you say?" I asked, my fist clenching under the table.

"When are you and Emilia going to give us a grandchild?" she asked, looking at Emilia with affection.

"Soon," Emilia said on my behalf, squeezing my hands under the table.

"Why are you picking at your food, Ava?" Dylan asked, and I turned to see my little sister.

She was quieter than usual.

"Is something wrong, Ava?" I asked her, looking at the sister I couldn't recognize anymore.

Was it a bad idea allowing her to school in New York?Did I give her too much freedom??Now thinking about it I realized I didn't know anything about her life within these three years. The friends she had and the people she was in contact with.

"Darling," mom called, trying to touch Ava.

She stood up abruptly and rushed out of the dining hall.

"I'll go after her," Dylan said, getting to his feet.

Her lies were likely tormenting her.
I couldn't help but chuckle to myself earning a look from my mom.

I'd handle her later, and she'd regret ever lying to me! She completely took the love and trust I had for her as my little sister for granted!Making me look like a total fool!!

That night she followed as home looking like a zombie.
