Taehyung POV
I woke up with a pounding headache, the memory of last night flooding back like a heavy weight in my chest.
What did I do? I could barely stand to think about it. The image of Mina's face, pale and hurt, flashed through my mind.
I dragged myself to the kitchen, hoping a cup of coffee might clear the fog in my head. Jia was already there, preparing breakfast.
"Good morning, Jia," I muttered, my voice rough from a restless night.
"Morning, sir," she replied politely, glancing at me with what seemed like hesitation.
As she set a plate of untouched food in front of me, her eyes flicked toward the dining table where last night's dinner still sat untouched. The cake, still perfectly frosted, caught my eye.
"You know," Jia began, her tone soft but firm, "it was Mina's birthday yesterday."
I froze, my hand gripping the cup too tightly.
"What?" I whispered, barely believing what I was hearing.
Jia nodded.
"She spent all afternoon cooking. She was so hopeful... She wanted to celebrate with you."
Her voice lowered as if she didn't want to make things worse, but the truth was already unbearable.
"She always spends her birthday alone, but this year... this year she really wanted to spend it with you."
My heart dropped. I felt a tight knot in my throat, and the blood drained from my face. I glanced back at the table-at the food and the cake.
The untouched cake. I didn't know it was her birthday. My mind raced back to the moment when I had coldly handed her the divorce papers. On her birthday. I threw those cruel words at her without even realizing...
"I... I didn't know," I whispered, my voice sounding hollow to my own ears.
Jia nodded but said nothing else. What could she say? The truth was already suffocating me.
I stood up quickly, needing to escape the weight of my thoughts. Without another word, I left the house, trying to push away the overwhelming guilt clawing at me.
At University
Jimin was already sitting on the campus bench when I arrived, looking concerned the moment I slumped down next to him.
I hadn't even needed to say anything-he could see the frustration all over my face.
"What's wrong with you, man?" Jimin asked, looking at me with genuine concern.
"You look like you haven't slept in days."
I ran my hands through my hair, the weight of the previous night pressing down on me.
"It's... Mina. I-I messed up," I muttered, feeling the shame rise in my chest.
Jimin's eyes narrowed. "What happened?"
I took a deep breath, recounting everything. How I'd come home angry, threw the divorce papers at her, and told her everything between us was just temporary.
"I didn't know it was her birthday," I added, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I found out this morning... from Jia."
Jimin let out a long breath, his face a mix of disbelief and pity.
"You handed her divorce papers on her birthday? Damn, Taehyung..."
