KIM

I exit the Book Shop, minding my own business, when someone walks right into me, the impact making both of us drop our bags. I look at the person that walked into me only to see a tall boy in front of me with dark brown hair and light brown eyes. His height was a little intimidating but I was used to it since my brother is really tall. We stand there awkwardly, staring at each other for a few seconds before the boy breaks the silence.

"...sorry about that." He says as he kneels down and starts to pick everything up.

I stood there a little surprised that he's picking up my things for me, I'm used to people making fun of me so it was refreshing to have someone be nice to me. When he's finished picking up the spilled items and putting them back in their bags he stands back up and hands my bags back to me.

"...thanks." I say softly before taking my bags from him.

He gives me a small, friendly, smile in response before an awkward silence falls between us. I wasn't used to interacting with strangers so I was a little nervous. I avoid making eye contact with him, he must have noticed my nervousness because after a moment he speaks up breaking the awkward silence between us.

"My name's Jack. What's yours?" He says before holding his hand out for me to shake.

I hesitate and glance down at his hand warily for a moment before finally taking it.

"My name's Kim," I say as I lightly shake his hand before letting go of it, "...I haven't seen you around town before. Are you new to the area or are you just passing through?"

"I just moved into town yesterday. I'm living in the old brick house on Maple Street." Jack says as he puts his hands in his jacket pockets.

As soon as he mentions Maple Street my face pales, he's living in the Ridge Wood Slashers' hunting grounds. When he notices my reaction he tilts his head to the side in confusion, he must not know about the history of Maple Street. Before either of us have a chance to say anything I hear my brothers' voice call my name not too far away from where we're standing. I quickly turned away from Jack and headed in the direction my brothers' voice came from, not wanting to keep him waiting too long or he might get mad at me.

I quickly make my way over to my brother still thinking about what Jack had just told me. For the past two years anyone who moves in on Maple Street is brutally murdered two weeks later. After the first three murders we knew we had a serial killer in our small town, everyone started calling him or her the Ridge Wood Slasher. I just hope nothing bad happens to Jack and his family.
