Chapter 4: A Job Well Done?
"Boom! 200 tickets before noon!" Judy exclaimed proudly, her chest puffing out as she marked her achievement with a victorious grin.
She was about to hop back into her meter maid cart when a soft ding caught her attention. Her ears twitched, and she glanced over—her own cart's meter had expired.
Judy groaned, rolling her eyes as she took out her notepad. "201," she muttered under her breath as she wrote a ticket for her own vehicle and slapped it onto the windshield with a sigh.
Just as she was about to get back into the cart, she heard footsteps approaching. It was Raven, her fur dusted lightly with snow from her earlier traffic assignment.
"Hey, Judy! Looks like you're having an interesting morning," Raven said, her tone playful as she noticed the fresh ticket on Judy's cart.
Judy let out a deep sigh, looking slightly deflated. "Yeah... 201 tickets, and the last one was for my own vehicle. How’s that for a productive day?"
Raven chuckled, stepping closer. "Hey, 201 tickets before noon is no small feat. I’d say you crushed it."
Judy shrugged, her ears drooping slightly. "I guess, but it still feels like... like it’s not enough. I’m writing tickets while you're out there doing actual police work."
Raven smiled softly, placing a paw on Judy’s shoulder. "Look, I know this isn’t what you imagined when you became a cop, but it’s a start. Everyone has to prove themselves in their own way, and today, you’ve already done more than most. 200 tickets is no joke."
Judy glanced up at Raven, her spirits lifting just a little. "You really think so?"
"I know so," Raven said confidently. "Besides, you’ve got drive. You’re going to do big things here. This is just the first step. Next time, it won’t be parking duty—it’ll be something bigger, something that lets you really show what you can do."
Judy smiled, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "Thanks, Raven. I really needed that."
Raven said with a wink. "How about grabbing some ice cream? You’ve earned it."
Judy smiled. "I like that idea."
As they walked together toward Jumbeaux's Café, Judy’s ears perked up. "Hey, look over there," she said, gesturing toward a fox slinking into the café. "You think he's up to something?"
Raven glanced over, her instincts kicking in. "Could be. Let’s check it out."
