The aftermath of Naraku's defeat left the world in a strange, almost eerie peace. She had expected to feel triumphant, victorious—but instead, there was only a hollow silence where her purpose had once been. Naraku was gone, the jewel shards scattered or purified, and history had been changed. Yet, despite everything she had achieved, the sense of finality she had anticipated didn't come.

She stood at the edge of a cliff, watching the sunset dip beneath the horizon, the sky painted in hues of crimson and gold. The wind tugged at her hair, whispering through the trees like an old, forgotten song. It was beautiful, this world she had fought so hard to protect. But now that her mission was complete, she couldn't shake the emptiness gnawing at her soul.

What do I do now?

The question had been haunting her ever since that final battle. Naraku's evil had been eradicated, and the timeline had shifted in ways she hadn't fully anticipated. Kagome, InuYasha, and the others had forged their own paths forward, none the wiser to how much she had altered the course of their lives. They had their futures. But what about her?

I'm a demon now. A wanderer in a world that isn't mine. She let out a slow breath, the heat of her demonic power simmering just beneath her skin. And I'm stuck here. Forever.

As the sun sank lower, she felt his presence before she saw him. Sesshomaru. Always silent, always observing from a distance. It had become a pattern—his quiet appearances, his steady gaze that seemed to pierce through her thoughts. He didn't speak much, but his presence had become a constant in her life. And for reasons she couldn't fully understand, it was comforting.

"I knew I'd find you here," his voice came from behind her, calm and unhurried. She didn't turn to look at him, but a faint smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"You always seem to," she replied, her voice soft as the breeze carried her words. "It's almost as if you're following me, Sesshomaru."

There was a pause, and she could feel the weight of his gaze on her back. Then, in his usual fashion, he sidestepped her accusation. "You've been... restless."

Restless. It was true. Since the battle with Naraku, she had been wandering aimlessly, unsure of her next steps. She had tried to follow the stories she knew from the anime, watching from afar as the familiar characters continued their journeys. But with Naraku gone, things were different. The world had shifted, and with it, her place in it.

"I don't know what to do now," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. She hated the vulnerability in her tone, but it was the truth. She was lost, floating in a sea of uncertainty.

Sesshomaru stepped beside her, his presence radiating strength and a quiet intensity. "You've done what you set out to do," he said, his voice as steady as ever. "Naraku is dead. The jewel is no longer a threat. Your interference has changed the future."

She turned to face him, her eyes searching his for some kind of answer. "But what about me?" Her voice cracked with the weight of her confusion. "What am I supposed to do now that everything's over? I'm not from this world, Sesshomaru. I don't belong here."

Sesshomaru's gaze held hers, his expression as unreadable as ever. But there was a flicker of something in his eyes, something she had seen in him more and more since their battles together. Understanding. "Belonging is a human concept," he said coolly. "You are a demon now. You forge your own path. Just as I do."

Forge my own path? The words resonated with her in a way she hadn't expected. Sesshomaru had always been solitary, an enigma who walked his own road, detached from the world around him. He didn't cling to the past, didn't dwell on what could have been. He simply was.

"I don't want to be alone," she confessed quietly, her voice trembling with the truth of it. "I've already lost one life. I don't want to wander through this one with no purpose."

For the first time since she had met him, Sesshomaru's expression softened—just a fraction. He studied her, as if weighing her words, considering something deep within himself. Then, after a long silence, he spoke, his voice low and deliberate.

"You will not be alone."

The simple statement hung between them, heavy with meaning. She felt her heart skip a beat, her breath catching in her throat. Sesshomaru had never been one to offer comfort or reassurances, and yet here he was, making a promise she hadn't expected.

"What does that mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, afraid to hope for more.

Sesshomaru's gaze was steady, his golden eyes glowing in the fading light of the sunset. "It means that you are no longer a stranger in this world. You have fought for it. You have bled for it. You belong to it now, just as it belongs to you." He paused, his eyes never leaving hers. "And I will be at your side."

Her heart raced at his words, a warmth spreading through her chest that had nothing to do with her demonic powers. She had been so focused on her mission, so determined to change the course of history, that she hadn't realized what she had gained in the process. She had found someone who understood her, someone who, despite his cold exterior, had chosen to stay with her.

For the first time since her arrival in this world, she felt something other than fear or loneliness. She felt... hope.

"I never thought I'd hear you say that," she said, a soft laugh escaping her lips, though it was tinged with disbelief. "The great Sesshomaru, offering to stay by someone's side?"

Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow, his expression returning to its usual cool detachment, though there was a hint of something almost playful in his eyes. "Do not mistake this for sentimentality. I merely acknowledge your strength. You are... worthy of my attention."

Worthy. The word struck a chord in her. This wasn't about love in the traditional sense, at least not yet. It was about mutual respect, a shared understanding of power and purpose. And maybe, just maybe, it was the beginning of something deeper.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice soft but sincere. "For everything."

Sesshomaru inclined his head slightly, accepting her gratitude without a word. He turned, his silver hair catching the last light of the setting sun, and began to walk away, his steps slow and deliberate.

But this time, she knew he wasn't leaving her behind. He was waiting for her to follow.

In the days that followed, she walked a new path—not alone, but alongside Sesshomaru. They became something of a legend, two powerful demons traveling together, their presence both feared and respected across the land. She no longer fought to change the course of history; she fought to protect the future she had helped create.

Kagome, InuYasha, and the others continued their journey, blissfully unaware of the ways she had altered their destinies. She never interfered again, content to let their stories unfold naturally, free from the shadow of Naraku.

As for her and Sesshomaru, their bond deepened over time, though neither spoke of it openly. There were no grand declarations of love, no promises made beneath the stars. But in the quiet moments, when the world seemed to pause and they stood side by side, she felt it—an unspoken connection, a shared understanding that went beyond words.

In the end, she had found what she had been searching for all along. Not a way back to her old life, but a place in this one. A purpose. A future.

And as they walked together through the endless forests of the Sengoku Jidai, she knew, deep in her heart, that she was no longer lost.

She was home.
