Years had passed since Nezuko first entered the world of InuYasha, reborn in the body of a demon, and so much had changed since that fateful day. The Western Lands, once feared and revered for their cold and distant ruler, had become a symbol of peace, prosperity, and protection. Sesshomaru's rule was unchallenged, but it was no longer marked by his icy solitude. He was no longer alone.
Nezuko stood at the edge of the castle's gardens, watching the gentle breeze rustle through the leaves of the ancient trees. In the distance, she could hear Rin's laughter as she sparred with her adopted father. The once-young human girl had grown into a powerful warrior in her own right, trained under Sesshomaru's guidance, and now blessed with centuries of life to continue thriving under his protection.
It was strange how life had turned out, Nezuko mused as she looked up at the clear blue sky. She had once been an outsider, knowing only the story of this world from her past life, where it had been nothing more than a tale. But this is no longer a story I simply know. It's my life now, my world.
She thought of her old life sometimes—of her family, of her lost fiancé, and the world she would never return to. But those thoughts no longer held the sadness they once did. She had found love, purpose, and a family here—something she hadn't realized she had been searching for.
Sesshomaru appeared at her side as if he had sensed her thoughts, his presence a calming, grounding force. His expression remained unreadable, but the way his golden eyes softened when they looked at her was enough to make her heart skip a beat, even after all these years.
"You are thoughtful today," he said, his voice low and smooth, as familiar as the wind in the trees.
Nezuko smiled, turning to face him. "I was just thinking about how different everything is now, compared to when I first came here." She chuckled softly, remembering the early days when she had struggled to find her place. "I never imagined this would become my home."
Sesshomaru tilted his head slightly, his gaze lingering on her face. "It was always meant to be," he replied quietly, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Nezuko's smile widened, her chest swelling with warmth. "Perhaps you're right." She reached for his hand, threading her fingers through his. His touch was still cool, but it had long since become a comfort to her, a reminder of the life they had built together.
For a moment, they stood in silence, simply enjoying each other's presence. But then a familiar, high-pitched voice cut through the peaceful air.
"Lord Sesshomaru! Lady Nezuko!" Jaken's frantic voice called from the distance, and Nezuko couldn't help but laugh. No matter how much time passed, Jaken remained the same—ever loyal, ever protective, and ever anxious. "Rin is getting far too reckless! Please, come stop her before she injures herself!"
Sesshomaru sighed softly, but there was a hint of amusement in his eyes. "She has grown strong," he said, though Nezuko knew he would never voice it aloud in front of Jaken.
"Yes, she has," Nezuko agreed, watching as Rin continued her sparring practice, her movements graceful and precise. "She's more than capable now. You've taught her well."
Sesshomaru's gaze softened as he watched Rin, his expression filled with quiet pride. "We have both taught her well," he corrected gently, his eyes flickering toward Nezuko.
She smiled at that, her heart swelling with love for both him and the girl who had become their daughter in every sense of the word.
"I suppose we have," Nezuko agreed softly, squeezing his hand. "We've built a family."
As the years continued to pass, their family grew in strength, love, and unity. Nezuko remained by Sesshomaru's side, ruling the Western Lands with him, but never losing the warmth and compassion that had drawn Rin to her in the first place. Sesshomaru, once a solitary figure of power, had opened his heart—not just to her, but to Rin, and in doing so, had found something greater than any battle or conquest.
Rin lived alongside them, thriving in her role as the protector of the lands, never aging, never fading, thanks to the ritual that had granted her the longevity of the demons she loved. She would never grow old, never be separated from the family that had chosen her, just as she had chosen them.
And so, their lives continued—Nezuko, Sesshomaru, and Rin—a family bound not by blood, but by something far more powerful. Love.
On one quiet evening, long after the sun had set and the moon hung high in the sky, Nezuko stood once more in the gardens of the castle. The air was cool, and the scent of the night-blooming flowers filled her senses. Sesshomaru appeared beside her, as he always did, his silent presence a constant in her life.
She looked up at him, her heart full of love and gratitude. "I never imagined that this is where my life would lead."
Sesshomaru turned his gaze to her, his expression soft, his eyes glowing in the moonlight. "You were always meant to be here, Nezuko." He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "By my side."
Nezuko smiled, leaning into his touch. "And I always will be."
Together, they stood beneath the stars, watching as the world around them continued to shift and change. But no matter what came, no matter how much the world transformed, their love remained, eternal and unbreakable.
And in that moment, Nezuko knew that she had found her true home. Not in the world she had left behind, but here, in this life, in this family, with Sesshomaru.
Forever.
