EIGHT
Back at the hotel, Vaughn and Mizoree urgently examine Samantha's hotel room from top to bottom. Their priority is to find any hint of Jess's essence or scent left within the room. Unfortunately, Jess was smart enough to use unscented soap on himself to conduct his abductions. There are also no signs of a struggle or any pinches of fur that might have been left behind. At this point, Vaughn's nose will not be of much help to them, so the only thing they can rely on now is finding a small trace of Jess's essence.
"Where do you think he could have gotten ahold of her?" Mizoree asks aloud.
"I dunno...have yuh tried outside on the balcony yet?" Vaughn asks.
"That's a good place to look for clues; it would be naïve to assume that Najera didn't step outside..." deduces Mizoree.
She heads straight for the balcony doors and opens them carefully, peeking her head out slowly. Her nose twitches with anticipation as her eyes take anything that might seem out of the ordinary. "Nothing unusual..." she mutters before stepping onto the balcony flooring. Vaughn comes over to join her outside, and he peeks over the railing down to the sidewalk below. They are only on the second floor, so getting access to their room is not an impossible feat, especially for a cat faunian like Jess. He suspects that Jess likely scaled the wall bare-handed, latching onto anything secured. Or, just used Alteration Arts to teleport themselves up and back down.
"Looks like you were right, Vaughn..." Mizoree pauses for a moment when she reaches the opposite end of the balcony. "I can feel it. It's vague but it still lingers right around here." She points to the floor under her foot. "There are traces of magic right here."
"Wow, that's amazing! Great work, Mizoree!" Vaughn cheers as he rushes over. "I had a hunch that yuh would find something before I would."
"It's nothing, really." She gloats, flipping her hair. "Seriously though, he most likely used a teleportation art to place himself up here quietly, making sure not to generate too much noise."
Without having to flaunt or boast, Mizoree is quickly rising up to become one of the better known clairvoyants within Divinity. Using her abilities, she can interpret the essence of others as color; a skill that is usually achieved as a more experienced clairvoyant. The color of magical essence indicates the level and intensity in a given area. Shades of blue are mild to moderately powerful. Red hues are more dangerous the darker they get, and shades of purple are to be approached with extreme caution, but encountering one with such aura is very rare.
In the rarest circumstances, there have been speculations of a few faunians who possess black tinted essence. Members of Divinity suspect they are likely to be the most powerful magic wielders of the Umbrian Covenant, The Pillars of Evora Isles.
"I can feel another faint reading just over this edge," she announces. "That must be where he teleported, either on the way up or down...who's to say."
Mizoree's face is hit with a breeze and she squints after taking a quick peek over the edge. She wonders how in the world did this Panther accomplish all this without being seen; she suspects that he must be very adept at using Illusion Dark Arts. A noteworthy skill in magic, but not something to fear outright. They will need to be on their toes and mentally sound if they are going to apprehend this creep.
"Yeah, well...let's not waste any time pondering, 'kay?" Vaughn shrugs and nods towards the door leading back in.
Mizoree sighs softly before releasing her focus, rubbing her eyes due to the strain. She walks right over to Vaughn, glances up at him, and then gives him a slight smile; a sign of affirmation.
