"Am I missing something? You just sent your mate off with your rival." Shay asks me. "No offense, Alpha."

"No offense taken. You are her Beta. Speaking of that, I think it best you move into the packhouse as soon as you graduate. I imagine your mother will veto it until then."

She is surprised by my words, but excited. "For real? You're going to let me be her Beta?"

I nod, "She is going to need you and probably a gamma as well."

Shay's eyes narrow. "What aren't you telling me?"

My eyes narrow on to hers. "I will tell you, but it is between us. Whatever I tell you, you can't let Nix you know until she tells you."

She gives me a dead-on stare. "I have no idea what's going on, but Nix is my best friend and my Luna. I will protect her first."

"Good," I tell her. "But what I need to explain is something she wants to tell you herself. Only she's having a tough time broaching the subject with you. I think she's afraid of losing you."

"Good luck with that," Shay snorts.

"Just remember, let her tell you." She puts her fingers to her lips and mimics locking her lips and throwing away the key. I smile then tell her. "Sebastian isn't my rival, he's her other mate."

Her eyes widen but she stays focused on the conversation. "Doesn't she have to pick one? How can she have two? Only identical twins or Fae share."

"That's the other thing. Nix is a sprite."

"So, she is fae."

I sigh and wince. Sebastian and I have yet to fully discuss how we are explaining her goddess-hood. The truth from Jefferson is limited. Few wolves will accept Selene talked to Jefferson. He is a Siren not a wolf. And, not with him saying we had to wait for our full explanation. "She's not fae. We believe she's a goddess."

Shay clearly doesn't understand. "Hello, sprites are fae."

"Not all of them," I explain. "Some are direct descendants of the original gods and goddesses."

"Huh? That sounds like splitting hairs."

"I know, trust me I know." I rub my forehead with my fingertips, understanding now why Nix keeps saying she's going to start having migraines. "But fae in general were created by the gods and goddesses except for some, some are direct descendants of the gods. We have to tread softly here. But I can't believe Nix is a fae. She's not capricious or vain, she doesn't play games."

Shay thinks for a while and nods, "She isn't playful. She's serious and sweet. And she can lie. Fae can't lie, right?"

I nod. "How well does she lie?" I already knew she could evade and bend the truth.

She laughs, "To the point I didn't even know she was lying! And I'm a werewolf! She also takes more than she should. Like Marin's crap. She'd take it to shield me. That doesn't sound like a fae, to me anyway."

"What crap exactly? I have to talk to Marin, and I need all the ammo I can get." I explain to her what happened in the dining room. Interviews went better when you have information to throw at the person and aren't just demanding answers.

"Marin treated her like shit, Alpha, from the first day of high school. Last year in PE, she made it her daily goal to demolish Nix. If we played with a ball, she'd hit her with them, if we were running, she'd trip her. And not to be rude, but Nix's assets," Shay cups her hands in front of her breasts. "Aren't small."
