y/n entered the school this morning, not particularly excited for the day, as always. she walked through the hallways, ignoring the people around her as she made her way to her locker, the pictures of her and her friends that were taped to the door on the inside greeted her as she opened it. her first period was french class so she pulled her textbook out of her locker before shutting it, but she jumped when the door closed to reveal her best friend, stacy.

"STACY!! WHY WERE YOU STANDING THERE?" she yelled over the conversations throughout the hallway.

"i'm sorry! i couldn't resist!" she laughed.

"it's too early for this." y/n whined.

"oh hush. anyway, good morning good morning, i have to tell you something." she says, standing up straighter.

"shoot." y/n says, leaning on her locker.

"there's a party tonight at jason's house aaaand-"

"you want me to go with you?"

"yes!" stacy smiles.

"no!" y/n smiles sarcastically back.

"whyyy?" stacy whines.

"because it's a tuesday and i guarantee that i will not be in the mood to party by the end of 3rd period so therefore, i am not going." she finishes.

"oh yeah? wanna bet?" stacy raises her eyebrow and y/n looks at her questionably before she sees stacy start to smirk before looking behind y/n. y/n follows her gaze and he eyes widen as she sees lyle menendez standing a few feet away from them, talking to a group of his friends.

y/n has had a crush on lyle since he walked into english class freshman year. now, they're seniors and she still had strong feelings for him. she wasn't exactly sure why she liked the boy. she just knew that he was different from all the other guys she's talked to. although they've never actually had a full conversation, she still knew how much of a kind person he was to people no matter where they came from or who they hung out with and that's the kind of guy she wanted. but, she still felt as though they would never happen because she was far from the other girls he's dated. but little did she know that he always had his eyes on her when she wasn't watching.

"no no no no, stacy please don't, STACY-"

"LYLE! come here!"

his attention diverts from his friends to the two girls and him and y/n immediately make eye contact. she couldn't believe what was happening right now as stacy waves him over.

"hi guys." he says when he reaches the girls.

"hey lyle." stacy says and nudges y/n in the arm, earning a quiet 'hi' from the girl. "you going to jason's party tonight?" she asks.

"i plan on it. what about you, y/n?" he asks her, looking at her with soft eyes.

"uhhh- i-" she stutters, nervously.

"she'll be there." stacy finishes for her and y/n lightly hits her in the arm, earning a laugh from lyle.

"i'll see you guys there then. bye y/n." he says, standing up straight to walk away.

"bye lyle." she trails off, watching him walk off back to his friends.

she felt frozen as she was in complete disbelief of what happened. her long-time crush just talked to her and even better, he knew her name.

"do you want to go to the party now?" she teases and y/n shoots her a death glare.

"it's too early and too much just happened." she groans and the bell rings.

"YOU'RE WELCOME!" stacy yells but y/n's already halfway down the hall.
