surprise - lyle

y/n pulled her jacket further onto her shoulders as she got out of her car in the parking lot of her boyfriend lyle's dorm. she had been planning to surprise him for weeks and today was the perfect day to do it. not only because it was her first day of winter break which meant she finally had all the time in the world to surprise him at his college. since she's still in high school, her and lyle were forced to do long distance when he got accepted into college but they still somehow made their relationship work, thankfully. 

she got out of her car and looked at her surrounding, making sure lyle wasn't walking up the sidewalk or pulling into a parking spot near her. opening the door to the building, she runs into one of lyle's friends derek who she had asked to help her with surprising him. 

"hi derek!" she said and gave him a quick side hug. 

"hey y/n! how was the drive?" he asked when they pulled away. 

"oh you know, traffic galore because of the holiday but its no biggie." she responded, tucking her hands into the pockets of her jacket which happened to be one of the many clothing items that lyle had left her with when he moved away. 

"that sucks but at least your here now and i'm sure your excited to see lyle." he smiles. 

"i'm so excited! what's he up to right now?" she asks.

"he went to the library to study for a while but he should be back here in a few minutes. i thought you could just go up to his room and sit at his desk until he gets back so it looks like you've been there for hours." he laughs. 

"perfect!" she claps. 

they start walking up the stairs and eventually make it to the front of lyle's room. derek waves her off and says he has a class to get to and leaves her at the door. to her surprise, the door was unlocked. she remembered that lyle did have habit of forgetting to lock doors to which she laughed at and she continued on with her plan. 

his room was surprisingly clean. well, as clean as a college boy's dorm room could be. there was just a few clothed scattered here and there but it definitely could've been worse. at least it smelt good in there. she took a couple minutes to look round a little more and she noticed all of the pictures of the two taped to the walls and his desk from previous dates and outings that they've had together. she smiled at all the memories before taking a seat on his bed, deciding to go underneath his comforter in order to scare him. 

a couple minutes later, she heard a voice that sounded like lyle's coming from down the hallway. she suddenly got nervous. it had been a few months since they've seen each other so she had a reason to be. but she was still excited to see his face when he'd open the door and see her sitting on his bed and how she was only a few seconds away from hugging her boyfriend again. soon, the doorknob started to turn and she heard lyle step into the room. 

after a minute or two, he must've noticed the large lump hiding underneath the blankets on his bed because y/n heard his footsteps stop and start walking towards the bed. 

"what the hell." he whispered to himself. 

she tried to hold in her laugh as he started poking at her body through the blanket and he eventually pulled the blanket off, revealing a smiling y/n underneath it. 

"WHAT THE HELL!" he repeated and y/n jumped up from the bed and immediately clung onto lyle. 

"hi!" she says as he finally wraps his arms tightly around the smaller girl while clearly still trying to process what was happening. 

"hi baby. when and how did you get here?" he asks in disbelief. 

"i drove?" she says as a matter of factly and he gave her a 'duh' look. "actually, winter break started obviously and i couldn't wait until next week to see you so i called derek and he helped get here to surprise you." she explains and he goes to hug her again.

"no kidding. i'm so glad you're here, babes. i was having an awful day until you came." he says softly, kissing her. 

"aw baby, i love you." she says and buries her head in his chest as his grip tightens around her. 

"i love you too."
