When I woke, the house was bathed in a soft, golden light. The storm had passed, leaving the world outside still and peaceful. I stretched lazily, feeling the warmth of the blanket still draped over me. As I sat up, I noticed a pillow tucked under my head and smiled to myself. At some point during the night, Ethan must've placed it there after I'd fallen asleep.
Rubbing my eyes, I looked around, disoriented for a moment. The TV was off, the room quiet except for the occasional creak of the house settling. I was alone on the sofa. He must've tucked me here, I realized, the thought bringing a flutter of warmth to my chest. I couldn't help but smile as I imagined him tucking me in, making sure I was comfortable.
It was such a small thing, but it felt intimate. Like he cared in a way that went beyond just being there. It was those little moments, the unspoken gestures, that were starting to mean more than I ever expected.
I pushed the blanket off and padded over to the window. Outside, the world was fresh and clean, the rain having washed away the tension of the storm. Sunlight filtered through the trees but it still felt like it will rain slowly but beautifully again. It felt like a new beginning, a perfect contrast to the chaos that had consumed my thoughts the night before.
I found Ethan in the kitchen, standing by the counter with two mugs of coffee in his hands. His hair was a little messy, his face relaxed as he glanced out the window. When he noticed me, his lips curved into a soft smile that made my heart skip.
"Morning," he said, his voice still a little husky from sleep. "I didn't want to wake you. You seemed... peaceful."
"Thanks," I replied, suddenly feeling shy as I took the mug he offered. The warmth seeped into my hands, grounding me. "I didn't realize I'd fallen asleep so fast."
He chuckled, leaning against the counter. "You looked like you needed it."
His eyes met mine, and there was something in his gaze that made my breath catch. I didn't know what to say to that, so I sipped my coffee, letting the heat spread through me. The silence that followed wasn't awkward, though. It felt... comforting, like we didn't need to fill the space with words to understand each other.
"We should get out of here," Ethan said after a moment, breaking the quiet. "It's a beautiful day. Let's go for a walk."
A walk sounded perfect. The idea of being outside with Ethan. "Yeah," I agreed. "That sounds nice."

The sun was shining with a soft, golden hue as Ethan and I stepped out into the crisp morning air. A light breeze rustled through the trees, carrying the earthy scent of rain. I inhaled deeply, feeling the freshness of the day fill my lungs, and immediately, I felt lighter. Everything about this morning seemed brighter, clearer, like the storm had washed away more than just the rain—it had cleared my mind, too.
Ethan walked beside me, his hands casually tucked into his pockets, and I found myself feeling particularly buoyant, my mood matching the beautiful day. There was a sense of spontaneity bubbling up inside me, a quiet joy that made me want to stretch my arms out and spin around. It was one of those rare moments where everything just felt right, like the world was aligned in your favor, if only for a little while.
