Chapter 4: Fractured Words
The day had started off with excitement. BTS had a major interview lined up, and the members were buzzing with anticipation. The studio was filled with a vibrant energy as they prepared for the session. Cameras were set up, lights were adjusted, and the atmosphere was electric.
As the interview began, the members took their places on the couch, and the interviewer started with a series of questions about their recent album and tour. Jin, as usual, was eager to share his thoughts and experiences, his enthusiasm shining through with every word he spoke.
“So, Jin,” the interviewer asked, “what has been the most memorable part of this tour for you?”
Jin’s eyes sparkled as he launched into a detailed account of a particularly touching moment during one of their concerts. He spoke passionately, recounting every little detail with animated gestures. The interviewer listened attentively, but Namjoon, sitting next to Jin, began to shift uncomfortably.
Namjoon had always appreciated Jin’s enthusiasm and his ability to captivate audiences with his stories, but today was different. As the minutes ticked by, Namjoon’s patience wore thin. He glanced at his watch, his frustration growing. The interview was running longer than expected, and he could see the time slipping away.
Jin, caught up in his storytelling, didn’t notice the shift in Namjoon’s demeanor. He continued to elaborate on a funny anecdote from their recent tour, his voice rising in excitement.
Finally, when Jin took a breath, Namjoon couldn’t hold back any longer. “Jin,” he said, his voice tinged with irritation, “can you wrap it up? We have other things to discuss.”
Jin’s smile faltered, and he looked at Namjoon, surprised by the abruptness of his tone. “Oh, sorry. I was just sharing—”
“No, I get it,” Namjoon cut him off, his frustration evident. “But you’re being a bit childish. It’s not all about you. We need to stay on track.”
The words hit Jin like a physical blow. He had always been the one to fill the silence, to bring energy to their interactions. He had never been criticized for his enthusiasm before. His eyes widened, and he fell silent, his heart sinking. The warmth of the studio suddenly felt cold, and he struggled to hold back the tears that threatened to spill.
The interview continued, but Jin’s usual brightness was dimmed. He spoke less, his responses shorter and less animated. Namjoon noticed the change but was too caught up in his own frustration to address it.
As the interview wrapped up, the members went their separate ways. Jin, feeling the weight of Namjoon’s words, found a quiet corner in the studio to collect himself. His heart ached, and he couldn’t stop the tears from falling. He leaned against the wall, his sobs muffled by his hands.
Hoseok, who had been watching from a distance, noticed Jin’s distress. Concern etched on his face, he made his way over to Jin. The sight of Jin’s tear-streaked face tugged at Hoseok’s heart, and he gently placed a hand on Jin’s shoulder.
“Jin,” Hoseok said softly, “are you okay?”
Jin looked up, his eyes red and puffy. “I’m fine. Just… just needed a moment.”
Hoseok could see that Jin was far from fine. He sat down beside Jin, his presence offering a comforting solace. “You don’t have to pretend with me. What happened?”
Jin hesitated, his voice trembling. “Namjoon… he called me childish. Said I was being immature. I’ve never heard him speak to me like that before.”
Hoseok’s expression softened with empathy. He wrapped an arm around Jin’s shoulders, offering a reassuring embrace. “I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, Jin. Namjoon’s words… they don’t define you. You’re not childish. You’re passionate and full of life.”
Jin leaned into Hoseok’s shoulder, finding comfort in his warmth. “But why did he say that? I’ve always been like this, and he’s never reacted this way before. Did I do something wrong?”
Hoseok shook his head, gently stroking Jin’s back. “Sometimes people take their frustrations out on others. It’s not about you. It’s about what’s going on with them. Namjoon’s probably stressed or overwhelmed, and it’s not fair that he took it out on you.”
Jin sniffled, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I thought… I thought we were close. I thought he understood me.”
Hoseok’s heart ached for Jin. He tightened his hold, offering as much comfort as he could. “You are close. And he does understand you. Sometimes even the closest people make mistakes. It doesn’t mean they don’t care about you. It just means they’re human.”
Jin pulled back slightly, looking up at Hoseok with tear-filled eyes. “What about you, Hoseok? Do you ever feel insecure? Like you’re not good enough?”
Hoseok paused, taken aback by the question. He took a deep breath, his own insecurities surfacing. “Yeah, sometimes. I think we all do. We all have our moments of doubt.”
Jin’s gaze was steady, seeking solace in Hoseok’s honesty. “How do you deal with it?”
Hoseok offered a small, reassuring smile. “I remind myself of the things that make me strong. I focus on what I can do, and I try to remember that I’m enough as I am. And, honestly, having friends who care about me helps a lot.”
Jin nodded slowly, absorbing Hoseok’s words. The warmth of Hoseok’s presence was a balm to his wounded spirit. He managed a faint smile, his spirits lifting slightly. “Thanks, Hoseok. I needed to hear that. It means a lot to me.”
Hoseok smiled back, his own worries momentarily forgotten as he focused on supporting Jin. “You’re always welcome. Remember, you’re amazing just the way you are. And you’re definitely ‘World Wide Handsome,’ no matter what anyone says.”
Jin chuckled softly through his tears, the tension easing from his shoulders. “You always know how to make me feel better. Thank you.”
The two sat together in the quiet corner, the bond between them growing stronger. Hoseok’s comforting presence was a reminder that even in moments of hurt, there was solace and understanding to be found. As they stood up to rejoin the group, Jin felt a renewed sense of strength and reassurance.
Namjoon, unaware of the quiet moment between Jin and Hoseok, was busy wrapping up his own tasks. The day had been challenging, but seeing Jin’s smile return, even if only partially, gave Hoseok a sense of accomplishment.
Jin and Hoseok rejoined the group, the atmosphere lighter. Jin’s smile was more genuine, and although the hurt from earlier remained, he felt a bit more at ease. Hoseok’s support had been a beacon of comfort, reminding Jin that he was valued and loved, no matter the challenges that lay ahead.
