Chapter 6: A Breaking Point

Jin stood in the kitchen, staring down at the mug of coffee in his hands. He had been lost in thought for days, guilt gnawing at him ever since that night with Hoseok. Every time he looked at Namjoon, a wave of shame washed over him. He couldn't believe he had let things go so far with Hoseok, and now, every interaction felt heavy with the weight of what he had done.

Hoseok had been avoiding eye contact too, though he occasionally glanced at Jin, his gaze filled with longing. But Jin couldn’t bear to look at him for too long. He felt like he was betraying Namjoon, and the guilt was slowly eating him alive. How could he explain it? He had real feelings for Namjoon, but Hoseok’s kindness had slipped through the cracks, and now everything felt upside down.

Namjoon, on the other hand, had started noticing the distance between them. The weeks prior, Jin had always been seeking his attention, trying to pull him away from his busy schedule. But now… nothing. Jin wasn’t begging for his time anymore. In fact, he seemed distant, quieter, and Namjoon couldn’t figure out why.

“Jin?” Namjoon’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

Jin looked up, startled. Namjoon was standing by the door, his brow furrowed with concern. “Yeah?”

“You okay? You’ve been… off lately,” Namjoon said, stepping closer. “You’re not yourself.”

Jin forced a smile, trying to appear normal. “Just tired, I guess. Been thinking a lot.”

Namjoon studied him for a moment, then shrugged. “Alright. If you need to talk, I’m here, you know that.”

Jin nodded, his heart aching. He wished it were that simple. He wished he could just confess everything, but how could he break Namjoon’s heart like that?

---

That night, Namjoon wasn’t home. He had another late-night recording session and wouldn’t be back until early morning. Jin lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind a whirlwind of emotions. The silence of the dorm was suffocating.

There was a knock on the door.

Jin sat up, startled. He glanced at the clock—it was past midnight. Slowly, he got up and opened the door to find Hoseok standing there, his eyes full of emotions Jin had been trying to avoid.

“Hoseok…” Jin whispered, his heart pounding.

“I need to talk to you,” Hoseok said quietly, stepping inside the room without waiting for permission.

Jin swallowed hard, his throat dry. “About what?”

Hoseok closed the door behind him and took a deep breath. “About us. About what happened.”

Jin’s chest tightened. “Hoseok, I—”

“I can’t stop thinking about you, Jin,” Hoseok interrupted, his voice thick with emotion. “I’ve been holding back for so long, trying to be the friend you needed, but… I love you. I love you more than I should, and I can’t keep pretending like I don’t.”

Jin’s heart was racing. He didn’t know what to say. Hoseok’s confession hung in the air, heavy and intense. The guilt he had been feeling intensified, but so did the warmth in his chest. Hoseok wasn’t just a friend; he had become so much more without Jin even realizing it.

“Hoseok…” Jin started, his voice trembling. “I don’t know what to do. I love Namjoon, but…”

Hoseok stepped closer, his hand gently cupping Jin’s cheek. “But we kissed, Jin. And it wasn’t a mistake. You felt something too, didn’t you?”

Jin’s eyes welled up with tears. He had felt something—something undeniable. And as Hoseok leaned in, their lips met once again in a soft, hesitant kiss. It was slow, filled with all the unspoken emotions they had been suppressing. Jin melted into it, letting the guilt slip away for a moment as he kissed Hoseok back.

They pulled apart, breathless, but neither moved away. Hoseok gently led Jin back to the bed, and they lay down together, Hoseok’s arms wrapping around Jin protectively. For the first time in weeks, Jin felt safe—he felt seen.

“I’m sorry,” Jin whispered, burying his face in Hoseok’s chest. “I don’t want to hurt anyone.”

“I know,” Hoseok murmured, his fingers brushing through Jin’s hair. “We’ll figure this out. But for now, let me take care of you.”

They stayed like that, cuddled together, the world outside forgotten for a few hours. Hoseok’s warmth enveloped Jin, and for a moment, everything felt right, even though Jin knew it was all wrong.

---

Morning came too soon.

Jin stirred, still wrapped in Hoseok’s arms, feeling a sense of peace that he hadn’t felt in a long time. But that peace shattered the moment he heard a sharp, familiar voice.

“What the hell is this?!”

Jin’s eyes flew open, and he sat up abruptly to see Namjoon standing in the doorway, his face twisted in anger and betrayal.

“Namjoon!” Jin gasped, scrambling to sit up, pulling away from Hoseok. “It’s not what it looks like—”

Namjoon’s eyes were blazing with fury. “It sure as hell looks like you’re cheating on me with Hoseok!” He pointed at them, his voice shaking with rage. “How long has this been going on?”

Hoseok sat up too, his face pale but determined. “Namjoon, calm down. This isn’t what you think.”

“Calm down?!” Namjoon’s voice rose. “I come home to find my boyfriend cuddling with one of my best friends? You want me to calm down?”

Jin’s heart raced, panic flooding his system. “Namjoon, I—”

“Stop!” Namjoon yelled, cutting him off. He looked between Jin and Hoseok, his expression filled with hurt. “I trusted you both. How could you do this to me?”

Hoseok stood up, stepping in front of Jin protectively. “Namjoon, it’s not that simple. You haven’t been around, and Jin’s been hurting—”

“Don’t you dare blame this on me!” Namjoon snapped. “I’ve been working to keep things together for all of us! And this is how you repay me?”

Hoseok clenched his fists. “You haven’t been paying attention to Jin. He’s been lonely, and I—”

“I DON’T CARE!” Namjoon’s voice cracked with emotion. “You betrayed me, both of you!”

Jin, tears streaming down his face, tried to stand between them. “Please, Namjoon, just listen—”

“I don’t want to hear it, Jin!” Namjoon shouted, his voice breaking. “I can’t believe this…”

Jin sobbed, his heart breaking at the sight of Namjoon’s pain. Hoseok, still standing by Jin’s side, looked at Namjoon with regret in his eyes. But he wouldn’t back down.

“If you had been there for him, Namjoon, this wouldn’t have happened,” Hoseok said quietly.

Namjoon’s eyes darkened. “Get out.”

The words hung in the air, cold and final.

“Hoseok, get out.”

Hoseok glanced at Jin, hesitating, but Jin nodded weakly. “Go,” Jin whispered, his voice barely audible.

Hoseok gave Jin one last look before walking past Namjoon and leaving the room, leaving Jin and Namjoon to face the storm that had just begun.
