The air in Jennie Kim's apartment held a certain stillness, a rare respite from the usual whirlwind of schedules, interviews, and appearances that governed Roseanne Park Chaeyoung's life. The soft hum of the air conditioning filled the silence, broken only by the occasional shuffle of Hank's paws on the floor as he padded around the space.
Jennie stood by the kitchen counter, scrolling through her iPad to double-check Roseanne's cleared schedule. She was used to the chaos, to orchestrating Roseanne's life, managing everything down to the smallest detail. Roseanne's fame wasn't easy to handle, but Jennie was always prepared. Except now-now, there was nothing to plan for. No schedules, no meetings. A rare day off.
From the living room, Jennie could hear Roseanne's voice calling out.
"Jennie, is my schedule packed again today?"
Roseanne's tone was lazy, almost indifferent as if the constant grind of stardom had worn away at her enthusiasm. But Jennie knew better. Roseanne thrived in the chaos-until she didn't. Jennie lowered her iPad and glanced toward the living room where Roseanne lounged on the couch, Kuma happily curled up in her lap.
Jennie had always found something ironic about Roseanne's duality-the public saw a tenacious, hardworking star, but in private, Roseanne was a mix of childishness (in an adorable way), stubbornness, and cold detachment. It was a side of her that only Jennie, and perhaps a few others, were privileged-or cursed-to see.
"You have a day off today," Jennie replied, stepping into the living room.
Roseanne raised an eyebrow, her gaze shifting from Kuma to Jennie. "What do you mean I have a day off today? So I can just... laze around?"
Jennie shrugged, casually crossing her arms. "If you wish."
For a second, a flicker of confusion passed through Roseanne's expression, as though she didn't quite believe Jennie's words. Her eyes lit up, slowly filling with a childlike delight that Jennie had come to recognize over the years.
"Seriously?" Roseanne asked, sitting up and gently placing Kuma on the floor. "No work? Like... no work at all?"
Jennie nodded, amused at the sudden shift in Roseanne's demeanor. The singer, who had just moments ago been lounging with the air of someone too tired to care, now seemed eager.
Jennie sighed, rolling her eyes with a smile as she made her way to the couch. She sank down beside Roseanne, stretching her legs out and settling comfortably.
Roseanne scooted closer to Jennie, her face brightening with excitement. "Should we hang out then? Just the two of us?" Roseanne's fingers gently grazed Jennie's elbow as she leaned in, her voice carrying that persuasive tone Jennie had come to expect when Roseanne wanted something.
Jennie raised an eyebrow, her lips quirking in mild amusement. "Hang out? Don't you want to rest?"
Roseanne let out a small, exaggerated whine. "I'm bored of resting all day." She slumped against Jennie's side, resting her head on her shoulder in a way that Jennie knew was supposed to be endearing-another one of Roseanne's tactics.
Jennie glanced down at the top of Roseanne's head, feeling the weight of her pressing gently against her. "Where do you want to go?"
Roseanne paused, her brow furrowing in thought before a mischievous smirk curved her lips. Jennie didn't like that look-it always meant trouble.
"How about we go shopping?" Roseanne suggested, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
Jennie could already sense the impending headache. She knew how these things worked. Shopping trips with Roseanne were never just about buying a few things; they were full-on expeditions where Jennie often found herself, begrudgingly, footing the bill.
