Days melted away, but Emma couldn't shake the feeling that something was changing between her and Mr. Elwood or was it just in her head ? The way he had looked at her that day, as if he saw more than she showed, left her uneasy. What did he see?
She stepped into the classroom , Mr. Elwood already there. He was pacing by the window, a questionable look in his eyes, as if he was..battling something unseen. When he noticed her , he stayed silent , offering only a nod.
No matter how she felt about him, she knew deep inside there was no chance. He's my teacher, and I'm just another student. She fed herself these thoughts every day before class... but as soon as their eyes met, those thoughts faded away, replaced by a wave of temptation. His presence, his movements..everything about him blooming something risky in her. But who would tell her the truth?
Emma slid into her seat, trying to keep her mind on the lesson, but it was impossible to ignore the tension in the room. Mr. Elwood was different today. His usual calm seemed off, like he was carrying something heavier.
During the class, she glanced up, catching his gaze just as he looked away. Was she imagining things? Was this all in her head, or was he intentionally avoiding her? The air felt full with unspoken words, but she couldn't figure out what they were.
When the bell rang, giving end to the class, Emma stayed back, waiting for the room to empty. Her heart pounded as she watched him packing his papers , his movements on point but hurried, like he needed to get away.
"Mr. Elwood?" she called out, already regretting it.
He paused, and looked up at her, his expression hard to read, yet impossible. "Yes, Emma?" he replied, his voice steady, but she tasted an undercurrent of tension just beneath the surface.
She hesitated, unsure what she was even going to say. "Is everything... okay?" It was a simple question, but it felt quite the opposite, like they both knew it wasn't just about today.
After an awkward silence, making her think .. why did i get myself in here? Finally, Mr. Elwood stepped closer.
"Why are you asking " with a fake cold voice.Emma swallowed, she could hear her heartbeat in her ears.
"You seem... different today," she managed, her voice barely above a whisper. His eyes got even darker, the casual smile from before disappeared . "There are things... you don't need to worry about," he said, his voice low, almost a warning. He LOOKED away, as trying to choose his words carefully... back to her eyes . "Sometimes it's better not to LOOK too deep."
Sending a shiver ran down her at his words. "What do you mean?"
He let out a soft sigh, his fingers pointing
onthe desk as if seeking stability. "Just concentrate on your studies, Emma. Some things are best left hidden beneath the surface."His answer only left her with more questions, but the weight of his gaze made it clear there as something he wasn't saying. Something that she wasn't supposed to know....Yet.
After she turned to leave, the echo of their conversation still in her mind, heavy with meaning. she couldn't help but wonder: what was Mr. Elwood hiding? And why did it feel like the more she tried to stay away, the more she was being pulled into something she didn't understand? she was getting tired off how he balances with her feelings.. but then she realised that the real challenge was only just beginning.
