Victor was late. Late enough that he almost considered running, but let's be real—Victor running would mean the world was ending.
Opening the doors of the gym he interrupted Woodsy's speech. "As a little incentive, the student who picks up the most bags of rubbish will receive a PlayStation-" she sighned. "Just sit down Victor," she said, cutting him off before he could utter a word.
He slid into an empty seat next to Malakai as Woodsy continued. "As I was saying. A PlayStation gift voucher. Valued at $50. It's still a lot."
Victor's gaze wandered, scanning the crowd until his eyes landed on Ant. For a brief moment, their eyes met—then Ant quickly looked away. Victor frowned, feeling a sting of disappointment mixed with confusion. What was that about?
"And, yes, the cleanup is compulsory. You will be handed out schedules in the first period. Thank you."
"Oi, how was your weekend?" Victor asked, turning to Malakai.
"Don't even try to make me feel better after what happened," Malakai muttered.
Victor blinked, confused. "What... wait what happened?" he asked, but when Malakai didn't answer, he changed the subject. "I slept all weekend. Didn't even know humans could sleep for two days straight."
"And yet you still slept in today?" Malakai smirked, earning a playful glare in return.
They parted ways after that, and Victor made his way over to his group of friends.
"You know what?" Missy was saying as he joined the group. "I would rather eat a balding bus tire than clean the girls' toilets."
"Weird flex, but okay," Darren commented.
"They haven't cleaned the sanitary bins in ages, Darren. Shit's a horror show," Missy shuddered.
"Period."
"The boys' toilets aren't any better," Vic chimed in, grimacing at the thought.
He shared a smile with Missy, got ignored by Quinni and Sasha, who were busy with staring at each other, and got his hair ruffled by Darren. He glared at them, but they only laughed back.
"Let me guess, you're going to be the trash queen of Hartley High," Sasha teased, still gazing at Quinni.
"Don't encourage her," Darren warned.
"You're jealous she's gonna beat you," Sasha fired back with a smirk.
"Yeah, you're jealous," Quinni echoed, playfully nudging Darren.
"No, you sweet, stupid lesbians," Darren said, shaking their head. "I won't be partaking because I don't clean up rubbish after white people. Sorry."
"Fair enough."
"I could get the Environmental Club to come pitch in and win you that gift voucher," Sasha offered.
"You'd do that for me?" Quinni smiled excitedly.
"Of course I would. You are my trash queen," Sasha said, playfully kissing Quinni all over her face.
Victor and Darren exchanged a glance, their faces mirroring the same mocking look of disguised.
In S.L.T., Victor—probably for the first time—managed to stay awake. Unfortunately, that meant he had to listen to Jojo talk about porn.
"So we all agree that pοrn has given us unrealistic ideas of what sеx should look like," Jojo began. "But is it all bad?"
"When you watch as much as Ant does," Dusty commented.
