The hospital room was sterile and cold, the faint beeping of the heart monitor echoing softly. Sayuki sat upright on the bed, her small frame covered in blankets as her doctor delivered the news that would forever change her life.

-Six months, at best. The doctor said, his voice gentle but firm. The condition is worsening fasterthan we expected. I'm so sorry, Sayuki...

Sayuki nodded, her throat tight. Her hands instinctively reached for the sketchbook on the bedside table. Art had always been her way of coping, her escape from the harshness of reality. She smiled, thought it felt hollow. How could she tell Lay?

That night, as the rain drizzled down the window, she video called him, Lay's familiar appeared on the screen, his messy black hair falling into his eyes, his soft smile always so comforting.

-Hey, Sayu! You look beautiful today. He said in his usual cheerful tone.

Sayuki bit her lip, trying to match his energy.

-You say that everyday Lay.
-And everyday it's true. He winked, leaning closer
to the screen. What did the doctor say? Are you feeling better?

she hesitated
-they said i'm fine for now, just need more rest.

She couldn't bring herself to tell him. Not yet.
Instead , they talked about their fav things: art, colors, and the dream they shared of one day painting together in Japan. Lay had always promised he would visit.

-When i come to Japan, let's go to Kyoto. Lay said, his eyes lighting up. We can visit the temples, paint the cherry blossoms and-

-I'd love that! Sayuki cut in, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. She knew that day would never come.
