Alison Olsen
Tonight was filled with nothing but fake smiles and giggles but for the very first time tonight I genuinely giggled because I found someone entertaining enough. The sad part about tonight was I had to return back to my actual date.
Edward.
"I hate to cut this entertaining conversation we're having but I'm needed back to my table."
"I understand. Tell him that next time he shouldn't leave you alone because next time he'll have lost you forever."
"Next time?" I asked my tone questioning why I should walk away from this man.
"I don't plan on allowing you back to a neglectful date." and a smirk appeared on my face making his eyes stay on mine.
"This has been fun. Your name?"
"Call me Shadow."
"Well call me Sunshine.."
"What a particular name."
"Someone special gave it to me even when I demanded he never call me that, he seems to become deaf each time I mention my distaste for the nickname."
"You must distaste it if you introduce yourself as it."
"Think of it as a meal you thought you hated before trying it."
Walking back to my table the mask I wore all night went back on. Shadow and I didn't know each other's identities but I had a feeling I'd be meeting more of him.
A smile crossed my face as the thought passed by.
"What's got you smiling like that?" and in that immediate moment it was gone. "Do I upset you?" Edward asked "Of course not" my smile reappearing just this time it was fake and bogus.
Getting easily distracted wasn't something I made happen often but for some reason my mind kept drifting of to shadow. His words moved me like no other have. He felt personal and I felt close to him. Shadow was everything I needed in a man but couldn't have since he had the rebellious side to him.
Nodding my head as Edward spoke made me smile even harder as I thought about how much trouble shadow could cause in the high society. Not many people knew me but they all had heard of my family name including mine separately but only as Charlotte. I wasn't ever acknowledged here as Amelia as they were two separate people.
This world required a strong minded soldier as she constantly needed to fight for survival and had no peace of mind as she was heir to a multi billion empire. Amelia was too free and too emotional, she was allowed to get angry and unhappy any time and anywhere. She was allowed to laugh funny or cry silly because she had no idea what was really required of her. I loved my life, both lives. I lived as Amelia and lived as Charlotte. I was an Olsen by day and a Rosewood by night. I was two incredible women but one was a weakness whilst the other one was a strength. I had enemies in both sides but had allies on both sides as well.
Separating both women made me weaker so I knew I needed to find a way to allow both Amelia and Charlotte to live as one. "Charlotte?" Edward called out to me "Charlotte?" he called out once again as he shook my knee gaining my full attention.
"Yes."
"Was I boring you?"
Yes.
"No." I lied effortlessly "I'm sorry my mind seems to be occupied by something."
"Maybe I can help." he asked chipper to assist me but it wasn't his assistant I needed. "I think I just need fresh air. I'll be back, don't look for me."
Standing up from my chair his hand grabbed onto my wrist, looking back "Don't leave me alone." he demanded his voice low but I could hear the threat behind that small sentence alone. Smiling back "Touch me like that ever again and you'll be walking down the aisle alone." he let my hand go immediately and his eyes changed. From annoyed to sorry but I didn't fall for that act.
Walking away as I rubbed my bruised wrist with my other free hand. I entered the 'magical garden'.
Walking out in my evening dress the breeze brushed against the thin hairline that protected my body. A small tear slipped making me frown "Do I need to beat someone up?" a voice spoke out but the person was covered within the darkness and before I could remove the wet line left by the lone tear a rough hand wiped it gently away making me freeze in place. Looking up at him my mask shifted fixing it he smiled.
I didn't know him and he looked like he knew me, stepping back "Excuse me." He pardoned himself as he moved back into the shadows. His scent hit a memory core. The sea was all I smelt, the sand was all I felt and the sun was all I saw.
"Who might you be?" I asked as I walked closer. Walking out the darkness and into the light "Have you already forgotten me?" He asked and I gasped.
He was the sun even though he portrayed the moon.
My body shivered in excitement. "Shadow?"my excitement visible.
"Your cold." nodding he took his coat off moving behind me he laid it on my shoulders allowing it to cover me fully.
"Cinnamon."
He chucked as he turned me to face him. "Is my scent that intoxicating?" he asked fascinated with my answer "Not intoxicating." I lied but this time it wasn't so effortless. It was hard but I didn't need this handsome stranger thinking I was easy to impress.
"Ouch." He said as he was walking back acting as if he had an arrow bowed to his heart. A little giggle made it's way out of me making me hold onto his coat tighter. He stood there searching my eyes for something and there it was a glimmer of hope I felt in my chest.
"Did I tell you how you are the only girl that has managed to captivate me. How your pearly white teeth shine as you smile. How I might not see your face but I know for a fact it's beautiful just by your brown sparkling eyes. How bouncy your hair looks just by it's shine. How soft your skin looks by the naked eye. You are the breath I long for. "
Those weren't words
"I apologize for making you uncomfortable but the truth needed to be said. I needed you to hear it."
I wasn't uncomfortable. I was honestly more relaxed in his presence then I ever was in anyones'.
"I have to." and before I could finish my sentence he smiled back and for a second, a split second I saw Christopher but he wouldn't attend this. He wouldn't right?
"You have to go back to him?" I nodded and he offered me his arm "I would like to escort you back to the main ballroom." he said one thing but his eyes said another. Sensing my hesitation he smiled once again "I'll drop you off at the door, it's just for your safety. I wouldn't be a proper gentleman if I let a beauty like you wander back alone." nodding because I knew this was probably the last time I'd see him my arm linked with his and a sudden surge of hot electricity passed through us. We both continued to walk not looking at each other until we arrived at the door I offered him back his coat but he refused it. "Keep it."
Entering the lively room everything seemed to stop for me. We went our separate ways. He left the party altogether and I had to go back to playing the role of hostess for the Rosewoods.
"Who's coat is that?" Edward asked attempting to grab the valuable item.
"A friend's." I lied as I wish he was the betrothed.
