King's Landing

3 days later

Royal chambers

"Has he woken up yet?" Viserys asked his brother.

"No." Daemon said. "He's alive. That's all that matters to me."

"What happened on Dragonstone?" Viserys asked.

"Dragonlings started eating each other. They attacked some dragonkeepers, but it wasn't fatal." Daemon said. "Vermithor and Silverwing went deep into the dragonmont. I was afraid they might wake the Cannibal so I stood at the entrance of that monsters cave with Caraxes. A few hours later, I felt the ground tremble. Its origin was in the dragonmont, so I chose to investigate. When I arrived, Silverwing and Vermithor fought, and one of the dragonkeepers watched it. Everything went black after. I awoke to find Heron standing above me, and I told him to leave."

"He didn't?" Viserys asked.

"No. I... I saw him kill Vermithor. Fighting side by side with Vahdrak. I must've passed out again because when I awoke, I saw Heron on the ground, and Vahdrak was dead." Daemion said.

"Why do you think Vermithor and Silverwing fought?" Viserys asked.

"I don't know." Daemon said. "The dragonkeeper watched it as if he was controlling them or one of them."

"We don't control the dragons, Daemon." Viserys said.

"That may be, but I know what I saw." Daemon said.

"How did both dragons die?" Viserys asked.

"I don't know. Heron was the only one who was standing." Daemon said.

"You expect me to believe that your son killed not one but two dragons?" Viserys inquired.

"No. Not Vahdrak. His wound was too large to be that of any weapon I saw, but Vermithors scale was removed almost as if it was ripped off, and the hole in his chest matched the size of Herons bo staff." Daemon said. "I think Heron and Vahdrak worked together to kill Vermithor."

Viserys nodded. "I must admit your son truly is something else."

"I fear how he will react when he finds out that Vahdrak is dead." Daemon said.

Herons chambers

Heron was lying in his bed. His head was tossing and turning as he remembered fighting at Vahdraks' side. He remembered the possessed Vermithor. He remembered killing the beast.

Heron shot up and saw Rhaenyra next seated on a chair.

"Heron. You're awake." Rhaenyra happily said.

"How long was I asleep?" Heron asked.

"Three days." Rhaenyra said. "Do you remember what happened?"

"Only pieces. I fought Vermithor with Vahdrak. Vahdrak! Is he alright?" Heron asked.

"I'm sorry, Heron, but Vahdrak didn't survive. He's gone." Rhaenyra sadly said and hugged Heron.

"Where's my father?" Heron asked.

"He's in my father's chambers." Rhaenyra answered.

"His wounds?" Heron inquired.

"Healed." Rhaenyra assured Heron. "I can call him if you wish."

"No. I just want a moment with you if that's alright?" Heron asked.

"Of course." Rhaenyra held Herons hand.

"I'm sorry I left." Heron apologized.

"No. Don't apologize, Heron. Your father needed you, and you brought him back safely." Rhaenyra assured. "I would've done the same."
